I'll set up the PVR to record it along with Corner Gas, Dan for Mayor and my all-time favorite "The Beachcombers".

Legend ???? In who's mind ????? He's a colour commentator and like most others Canadians, proud of their country. He's not politically incorrect because of an intellectual decision, he just old and doesn't have a clue what he's saying. CBC were thinking about dropping him for this reason as there is a danger that as he tries to keep his public persona relevant - he will intentionally say wilder things. Time will tell.

BTW: I didn't mind his sideshow a while ago but now it just annoys me - maybe I'm just getting as old and crusty as he is.

Like I have a choice - I don't have the energy to mute the commercials either. Besides - the game is not on so rather than switching to the cartoon channel and possibly missing the start of the period - watch the well dressed old cartoon fart rant a little. Maybe for those who can't understand what they are looking at when the game is on - he can give a 5 second synopsis before he wanders back to his good ol'day stories.
That is the lamest excuse I have ever heard. I get that you are not a fan of Don Cherry and you are absolutely entitled to your opinion, but if I do not agree with someone or do not like what I hear, I would change the channel or put them on mute an listen to the radio feed.

I think you really want to hear what he is saying so that you can bitch about it afterwards. Nevertheless, what ever makes your day.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense - I'll give up watching 3 periods of hockey because an an old blowheart is on the air for the same time and same relevant information as a feminine pad commercial. But it isn't lame to suggest anybody watching hockey does it to watch Don Cherry ... ?? really ??? oh the power of attraction this legend has ! Drop Don Cherry and I guess they might as will replace hockey with woman's figure skating. Yeah, my reasoning is lame ... right !

Not long ago (2004) he was voted by Canadians as one of the top 10 greatest Canadians along with 1.Tommy Douglas 2.Terry Fox 3.Pierre Trudeau 4.Sir Frederick Banting 5.David Suzuki 6.Lester Bowles Pearson7.Don Cherry 8.Sir John A. Macdonald 9.Alexander Graham Bell 10.Wayne Gretzky

"Like I have a choice - I don't have the energy to mute the commercials either. Besides - the game is not on so rather than switching to the cartoon channel and possibly missing the start of the period - watch the well dressed old cartoon fart rant a little." Weak excuse.

Actually it does make a lot of sense. Watch the TV feed and listen to the radio feed. So why do you have such a hard on against Don Cherry. Did you catch in doing a family member? There are a lot of people and personalities that annoy me, but I just ignore them.

I watched the second installment to-night. Those old film clips from the 1970's are really neat. Movie ends just as Cherry embarked on his broadcasting career. Anyway, love him or hate him, he does call a spade a bloody shovel.

Interesting to see that he admired Punch Imlach until he caught Ron Ellis with his head and ran him. Cherry tried out for the Leafs before. I did not know that.

The movie was a real eye opener to what Don and the guys of that era went through to make it to the "the show".Don't forget all those AHL ECHL Senior teams back then and only 6 TEAMS in the NHL. It tool a special type of guy to survive back then. He sold cars painted houses worked construction etc to feed his family. More important he believed in himself and by the looks of things quite a religous man.

Sure he is blustry bombastic loud brash etc but who on TERB would NOT like to meet the man and have a few "pops" and talk hockey. He is an icon and I wish him well.

As far as the movie goes it was good but I would have liked to see more maybe another 2 hour increment leading up to the current era.

The movie made those fistfights look a lot more vicious than I remember them. A helmentless Pierre Bouchard fought a helmet wearing Stan Jonathan (hardly a fair fight).

At least back in the old days, there weren't so many head hits.

the footage was actual broadcast footage (habs v bruins) so the movie didn't make them look more vicious. they simply rebroadcast HNIC tapes

I enjoyed the movie. Sorry, know nothing (forgive the double negative). However, why is it that when in a bar everyone gets quiet for "Coach's Corner" then as soon as it is over noise everywhere? More people tend to watch that 7 minutes than the game, even non hockey fans. It is controversial, passion and from the heart. Yes, politicial incorrect but the movie at least showed me where he is coming from and an era of life I knew nothing about. He definitly should be " as a broadcaster' in the Hockey Hall of Fame. I know he goes on and on about fighting and "the code" but he also has been in general advocating against the HARD equipment for years, cheap shots, and most of all the touch icing which was not allowed in the olympics. (Safety Issues). To me, the movie showed me his tender side and truly how he loved and respected his wife. Knew nothing too about his kids and the kidney transplant. For millions of Canadians, especially in hockey he is an icon loved and hated but few can say they do not know who he is. Go Leafs Go
