That was a career year for him. He could do no wrong.
No that wasnt a career year, closers are supposed to rack up saves and not wins.
That year he blew a lot of saves but somehow managed to record wins.
3 Saves for a closer is abysmal and thats why he didnt last.

All time best OF hands down Dave Collins, he also was the best Jay base stealer ever........... clinch hitting power hitting OF is George Bell the only Jay MVP ever......... IF Alomar, he was also the rudest Jay ever but hey he was the greatest Jay ever on the field or at the plate when he wanted to play !!!!!!!

First of all, I just wanted to say that I absolutely love this thread. It's not exactly about news and gossip anymore but that's okay. I also wanted to say that I don't know if it's intentional or not but when we're listing our all-time Jays teams, we seem to be leaving off rent-a-players. This is a good thing, if you ask me.

That being said, if they weren't being left off on purpose, there are some names that should also garner some consideration. big dogie called Dave Collins the best Jay base stealer ever. I do believe the numbers support this claim but do not forget that the best base stealer of all time, Rickey Henderson, played with the Jays in 1993 I believe. In case you forgot Rickey was the greatest, just ask him and he'll tell you. Do you guys remember his on-field speech after breaking the SB record?

Also, if rent-a-players were eligible for this thead, then we MIGHT just have to bump someone like Hentgen off the starting rotation in favour of David Cone. Though again, I don't have any of his numbers in front of me, sorry.

What in the world are you talking about? ........Dennis Lamp was never the closer.......... He did mostly long relief which is why he won so many games.....

It was a career year, and he was lights out that year.
I remember exactly, Lamp was bought as a closer, couldnt deliver the goods and was made into a middle reliever.

on another topic.....

it was good to see Olerud playing first for the Red Sox

and see Pat Borders catching for the Mariners
And Timlin and Leiter are still playing. Are there any more W.S. Jays still in the league or just those 4?

Mark Whiten

Anyone remember Whiten's cannon of an arm from right field? He came in with monster potential (tremendous "up-side") but he never really panned out. Although, he did hammer 4 homers for St. Louis.

Remember Dave Parker, he als had a cannon

BTW Who's this Gaudin kid that pitched 5 innings and struck out 6????
I've never heard of him untill now.
I'm assume he's taken Dave Bush's spot.

If things go 'bad' ...

... the Jays could become sellers ... who would be possible to go? I would figure ...

Orlando Hudson - Could put Hill or Adams at 2nd, even Menechino or McDonald as a stop gap. Teams possibly looking to upgrade include Boston, Minnesota.

Shea Hillenbrand - With Koskie @ 3rd and Hinske all but untradable in a sense that he sucks. He has no position other than DH, where they could fit anyone.

Eric Hinske - Doubt anyone wants him though.

Frank Cattalanotto - Could be a useful left handed bat on the bench for someone.

Ted Lilly - A lefty who could go 4th in a contender's rotation.

Miguel Batista - Could be a good setup man for a contender.

I'm not saying that we should trade these guys ... just looking at some options.

Jays are better off stacking up in the off-season, they wont do much this year, so I'd rather see them sell as opposed to buy...

I agree .... build up a good system that is sustainable and don't bite on a long shot.
