Chris Stuckmann picked Blade Runner 2049 as his film of the year. I love Carla Cugino, she has too much animal sex appeal for her own good. Hopefully with Gerald's Game she'll get better roles.

Howard Stern reviewed Darkest Hour on his first show of 2018. He said he cried by the end of the film. Can't blame him, Churchill stood up to the worst tyrant since Genghis Khan. His feeble nutted colleagues wanted to negotiate with Hitler but the British people supported him. He said Gary Oldman is a maniac for accuracy, that wasn't the actor he was watching. Of course having the British version of a young Sofia Loren, as Churchill's secretary Elizabeth Layton, doesn't hurt the film.

Now that Dave is on Netflix, I'm hoping Craig gets his own streaming show. What's on terrestrial broadcast these days is pablum. Carla made 7 appearances on Craig's former show.

Imho Craig's best interview.

A baked Brit Marling, pre OA daze. She must have broken a lot of hearts when she left Goldman Sachs.

A wonderful movie that didn't seem to get a lot of press is Coco from Pixar. It's obviously a kids movie, but it's beautiful to look at, has a great story and music and like all great Pixar movies will give you the feels.

Just watched Molly's Game and thought it was highly entertaining with Jessica Chastain shining once again with the always entertaining Idris Elba. I saw some parallels with Chastain's character in Miss Sloane which was also another movie where she provided a great performance. The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman was also very entertaining, especially if you like musicals. Jackman and Chastain are two of my favorite actors as well as the two Ryan's, Gosling and Reynolds. Can't wait to see the new Deadpool movie.

Of those I’ve seen these are my choices (in this order) with perhaps Darkest Hour in second. I think that’s were the best actor nod will go.

I watched the Golden Goobers just enough to see Gary Oldman win. Daniel Day Lewis seemed genuinely happy, his only peer getting what he deserves. His boy wasn't there to support Christopher Nolan.

Memo winning Best Director for 'The Shape of Water' made the night for me. Richly deserving.

"trade in three years of your life for one entry in IMDB". I love this 'guey'!

Gigli Del Toro says he wants to build his own film studio in Hamilton, Mama was shot there. It was the feature film debut of Andres Muschietti, who's also made It. He shot Crimson Peak in Kingston, but I consider that film a disappointment. He made the same mistake with Crimson Peak that Ridley Scott made with Prometheus, too much special effects, too little story. He's rebounded nicely with The Shape of Water. The story is solid and the casting superb...will he ever give Doug Jones a line or two?

I just saw it recently, refer to Gigli's Canadian connection in the redhead section...Shannon must have been overjoyed to do that scene with Lauren Lee Smith!

The Shape of Water, I'm not into fantasy but this one I loved. Finally a fantasy that doesn't require brutal violence and buckets of blood to make it work. The Creature is a stand alone character who reacts to the choices the characters around him make. The only character that doesn't have options is Michael Shannon's Richard Strickland, he's such an amazing actor that I actually pitied him by the end of the film. Honourable mentions go out to Michael Stuhlbarg (Fargo, Arrival) who burnishes his image as the most consistent character actor currently working and Nick Searcy (Justified) who had the pivotal scene in the film.

Don't go see it if you're not into fantasies...its 500% fantasy. I liked it ... Sally Hawkins and Michael Shannon were great.
Do go see it if you're into GREAT FILMMAKING.

Regardless of the genre, it's difficult enough to find a film that was well directed, written, acted, designed and edited.

If the public were to stay away from 'fantastic' films then where would you put these:

~ The Wizard of Oz

~ Princess Bride

~ Pan's Labyrinth

~ Lord of the Rings

~ Baron Munchausen

~ Big

~ E.T.

~ Being John Malkovich

~ Blade Runner

~ Avatar

...the list can continue. All of the above films not only contain the element of fantasy but actually transcend into other genres due to their high quality, same as 'Shape of Water'.

I'm glad you liked it but please don't oversimplify a film by pigeon holing it into one slot, that's small minded. 'The Shape of Water' (as the films above) is much more than that.

Not trying to pigeon hole it, some people don't like fantasies...I like Del Toro a lot ...I've watched almost all his movies including the series. I loved that scene in the "shape of water" when she's on the bus looking outside the window at the raindrops dance around and merge into bigger drops.....

This is Del Toro's year.

However, Nolan sold American audiences on a historical event they had no part in. Dunkirk scored big box office numbers in North America. His time will come and by extension Hardy's as well.

An Elgar ending:

Come on guys Blade Runner 2049 was just terrifyingly bad.. like I knew it would be worse than the original but to do it that bad?!
I mean if someone had actually purposefully wanted to do a bad film imo they wouldnt be able to do it as bad: no a single original idea, a complete changeover from dystopian Sci-Fi substance to...
a movie where the dad searches for his daughter, too long/too ridiculous dramatic play/too everything... which resulted in a total disaster

PS Thank God at least I watched it in 3D and these hologram scenes made it at least laughable; by not any means it was good movie at all

But the first one is a classic and very original story
