There is one huge difference. Except for cheap wood panneling in your basement den, all the rest of this stuff goes away over time without costly treatments which will still leave markings. [could be wrong about the last point].

Clothing wears out. Hair can be cut, grown out, cars rust away, records and tape become obsolete and can be tossed out etc.
