I was in bangkok for 4 days and 4 nights in 2008 march. I didn't do too much research b4 I went but I knew $2000 -$3000 baht was usually the price for long time with free lancers.
TUk tuk drivers although are scammers, but if you can befreind one he'll help you out. Thai people are super nice and hospitable. Try to learn and respect the local culture and language. They'll like you more for trying.
The Massage parlor / brothels can range from $1000 - $4000 for 1hr massage and quickie. no MSOGs usually. you can always get the girls # and try to see her again at a discounted price back in your hotel.
I stayed at a 2-3star hotel about 10 mins walk from sukhumvit. cost me around $7000-$9000 baht for the 4 nights if I can recall. You want to be around sukhumvit 11 - 19. Great road to just walk on. Every block feels like a market / bazaar from a different country. It was an awesome trip.

Bar Girls
Lots of good info here. I found the best strategy for hobbying (for me anyways) was focussing on the bar girls. I tried a brothel and go go bars but in both instances you made the call pretty much on looks alone which was ok but nothing special.
With the bar girl option you have a chance to hang out a bit, wait for one that shows interest in you, providing you like her looks, you can chat her up and see if there's any chemistry. If there is then off you go. My experience with this strategy has been tremendous.

Bernard Trink used to write a classic column in the Bangkok Post called the Nite Owl... all the tos and fros of the nightlife and go go scene.... been gone for a while now but it was a classic.
It's cheap, the girls are beautiful but take time to really enjoy how happy and friendly the people are.... Thailand is one of my favorite places.....
Oh, and don't worry how much you spend, you can always make more and how many times are you going to travel half way around the world. I'd suggest the Dusit-Thani or the Oriental (arguably the best hotel in the world) but they are western prices.

Why go down south at this time...with the insurgency, it's not worth it. Play in Bangkok, Pattaya, or even as far as Phuket, but there's no cause to run the added risk in the Muslim south.

yup, bb'ing is pretty common over there. In the bars you meet lots of guys who brag about it. Some of the girls ask if you want it. Fucking crazy.

You read about guys on forums bragging about getting it because that's exactly what they're looking for. For everyone who plays safe, they're not going to go into details about having used a condom because it's a regular thing to them and nothing special.

I've seen Thais beat the living shit out of foreigners on more than one occasion and they think nothing of ganging up on one guy. Totally different mentality. It's like, "it's a job to do, we'll get it done faster if there's more of us".
To be fair, all the beatings I saw administered were deserved.
Of the two times I've bb'd in Thailand, I woke up the next day with a hangover and thinking "oh fuck, you dummy..."
Both times have resulted in 3-6 months of HIV testing, a lot of worry and a lot of lost sleep. Really not worth it just to be the star of your own personal Creampie Thais episode...
