I use "Go SMS Pro", for Android.

Best feature: A password protected private area that I use for hobby texting. Completely separate from the regular texting area and invisible to others.

Worst feature: At least once a day I have to "force stop" the app and then re-start it or it won't send texts. One I restart it, it's usually fine for the whole day.

Annual fee - about $90 Canadian to get full features and no ads.

Solid VOIP/Texting app and cheap - $15 for 6 months of texting if I recall.

Why more than just a text-only app? First time you're having getting up to see an escort (texts not coming through for example), front door buzz code not working, etc - rare I know but it can happen - or if the lady/agency you want to meet up with requires a phone call - the VOIP phone service is appreciated.

This app saves me hundreds of dollars when I travel outside of Canada - why? A lot of the business calls I make during the week (while I am travelling I often work) are to 1-800 conference numbers....which sure are 'free' when calling from Canada...and I have the 'Roam like home' service on my cell phone....but found out the 1-800 numbers are not from Canada (Asia based typically) and it took only one trip costing me $600 in long distance fees to wake me up to this reality and I share here with you.

Using a VOIP app (this one or something like Skype for example) ensures any number you are calling won't be a surprise bill when you're outside the country.

Cheers

Unfortunately, agencies like WEL and TP don't accept text apps SMS.
Yes they do. Use the pay ones that allow you to make calls. Call them, “verify” wit them whatever the fk that means. And you’re golden.

The free ones won’t work without premium features, because they try to call new clients

Never use your real phone boys. This is rule #1 with this hobby and ever since Bill c34 I have been nothing but diligent about this

Unless you have a really weird number they have no way of knowing
Number portability and all
Actually as I have heard/learned - there is ways they can tell. For example if they are using a Text App themselves (i.e. the popular apps) then it shows the sender is from the same platform. That method is a bit obvious. What I learned that is interesting is there are websites, chrome extensions and apps that help in searching/confirming if a number is from a text app service.

For example:

Few years ago I would fully agree with you TeeJay - but the last year or two have shown things have changed.

You know a prepaid phone would solve this issue.
But then you have to carry two phones.

The other option is a dual sim phone.

But even though you pay for a sim card and minutes with cash at a convenience store, no trace right, the phone itself has an identifier and links the number.
That in my eyes is the most discreet method if you can't keep another phone hidden.

But just remember everything is logged through sms and LE can and will read everything, so behave!

I remember I tried calling/texting from a TextNow account a long time ago, and the agencies could tell right away that I was using a texting app.

How are they able to figure it out?

That app is pretty worthless as it makes 2 assumptions
You are using thier specific app (textnow) and you have not ported your number

I see lots of people claiming they can tell but really they cant

Oh and there is always call ID spoofing should you really want to remain anon
Incredibly easy to do

Anyone can look up the current provider of your phone number.

Yup. Eliminates any liability associated with using your own personal phone. (As to concealing from your spouse, that is another issue entirely.)

TeeJay, doesn't the network record your phone's IMEI number regardless?

I gave the link as just an example to share with all the readers here of this thread.

A key note of text-only apps is more agencies and indies require you call them/speak to them as a screening step which the text-only apps cannot do.

I have danced around this statement and perhaps I just need to come out and say it - a VOIP app, like Fongo - works with agencies who want to call you/screen you first (and indie's), texting is perfect - never had an issue with anyone suggesting you are using an app, no second phone for a SO/Wife to find and if in a really tight pinch a quick uninstall makes it disappear completely - when you reinstall you sign in with your fake gmail account address and password, activating the phone number you had before once again.

Simply put the concept of a 'second fully functional phone' (i.e. burner phone) can be had with a VOIP app and with good practice - delete the app when you go on vacation with your wife for example, is your greatest chance of keeping it concealed/secret.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
