If you believe Biden had anything to do with any plans to being them home then why would the astronauts not thank him and his administration?

Because Biden left them up there for months when he could have had them rescued months earlier but due to the election campaign, he believed it would be bad optics for his campaign to have a Trump supporter save his ass.

The mission that rescued the 2 astronauts was planned. That's why there were 4 of them coming back in total.

More specifically.... when the problems were discovered on the Boeing Starliner that made it unsafe for the astronauts to return, NASA made the decision to keep them up there to do help conduct experiments and space walk repairs etc. There was no risk (other than being in a space station!) to them staying up there longer. NASA and SpaceX did have disucssions about various options but both decided that it was nothing worth the several hundred million dollars, and disturbing SpaceX's other projects and launches it would cost to send a special, unplanned, mission to retrieve them. So instead, the 'stranded' astronauts spent more productive time in space at no extra cost, instead of hundreds of millions to "rescue" them. AFAIK, Biden himself wasn't even in on the discussions. As any good presidet of any company knows, rely on your departmental, specialized experts to either make the decisions or bring the options to them. I doubt that Biden would have said, no... fuck 'em, leave the assholes up there.

And it is no surprise that Trump and Musk and their right wingmen are mispresentng themselves as valiant heroes and Biden as a cruel cheapskate.

In other words, they were stranded for months, way longer than they needed to be, because Biden couldn't/wouldn't get them back and look like he was asking Musk for help during the election campaign.
