Content available for streaming is actually still pretty limited and if I want something a little off the beaten path that Ican't find any legal way to purchase onlinewhat I am still not against downloading.

I would support an amendment that downloading is not illegal where content has not been made available in a reasonable time at a reasonable price. That might force content owners to get off their asses and make a more complete catalogue available.
I use this to greatly expand streaming content availability today.
Top 25 Sites to Watch Free Movies and TV Online
Watched a couple flicks using them, after they were released just a week at the theaters! Recently watched 'Captain Phillips' with Tom Hanks that dealt with Somali pirates. It was OK but not one of Hank's best flicks.

Don't bother with Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, Roku, et al., which are still too severely limited in content.

Downtowner
I used to download when the industry was too stupid to make content available online, but now with Netflix, itunes, play, etc, I find I can usually stream the content lawfully, so I do.

However I do think if you are downloading something you could rent on itunes for five bucks, you really are just stealing.
Well said. I too make the vast majority of my music purchases through iTunes now. My problem before was always having to pay $15-$20 for the entire CD when only one song was good. Now you buy that one song for $1 and be done with it. Don't download movies so no worries there.

look how cute! moralists in an escort review forum.
There is no conflict of thought in recognizing that illegal downloading of copyrighted materials is pure & simple theft, and seeing escorts. I pay an escort in exchange for the activities of my choice, she provides a service and has every right to expect to be compensated for it.

Illegally downloading a movie is analogous to sleeping with and escort, then refusing to pay her because "charging $300 is a ripoff".

Actually it is more analogous with buying one of those real dolls that look exactly like a particular escort and having the escort claimed you stole her hourly fee from her everytime you used it. Even if you were the sort of person who would never in a million years pay for sex from an escort for whatever reason.
Great point!!!

Apple uses that same logic in court all the time to stifle their competiton ....:eyebrows:

What? Prostitution is not illegal. Hobbying is not stealing or exploiting anything for nothing. Stealing something including intellectual property is stealing (although I sort of agree with the old argument about the high cost of DVDs and CDs).

Actually, Kelso's rebuttal to Diehard is proper. (Diehard opined that it is illogical for someone on an escort review board to moralize about downloading as stealing. Perhaps Diehard is a citizen of the land of the free and home of the brave where hobbying is illegal, for which his argument might have some merit).

More like you might bang a 5, if she's a civilian pickup, but you wouldn't book an appointment with less than a 7, (without makeup).

You must have missed the whole VCR era.
Back then peeps did exactly that with videotape, what they are now doing today, digitally with Screencaster apps.
BTW I still have 100s of movies stored on videotape that still play fine. However back in the VCR era, movies were worth saving.
Don't feel the 'crap movies' of today are worth downloading or saving .....;)
Yeah, they made copies and gave them to friends. But when everyone at work is talking about House of Cards, those without Netflix aren't going around asking someone to make a screencap for them, they're just hitting up TPB and downloading it. The VCR era was a different era, you really can't compare them.

It's not really morals though. They're talking about the law. Under the law, you can pay someone for sex. Under the law, you can't download copyrighted content. So being here, discussing things we do legally and which may have a moral stigma, does not imply we automatically support engaging in other activities that have a moral stigma but which are illegal.

So will Voltage go after Rogers and Bell customers next?
And when did they do that?
Almost 9 years ago when BMG initiated a huge lawsuit. And repeatedly ever since. Whenever they're asked, they basically just hand everything over, or mail out letters on the copyright holder's behalf.

If you'd like to hear more about how Bell, Rogers and other large ISPs (almost everyone EXCEPT Teksavvy) don't give a shit about the end users and would like to see a closed internet similar to what you get with cable TV where you need to buy packages, you can check out Michael Geist's blog.

If Rogers had it their way, this is what we'd have:

Actually its very savvy to have Internet from Teksavvy, they actually care about their customers and will stand up against the copyright trolls to ensure that due legal process has been followed unlike most other ISPs.

Yup, sounds like they will make this too expensive for the trolls to continue.

Thats another way of looking at it I suppose.

Copyright trolls can fine me $100 all they want, given the amount of shit I've downloaded over the years I'm still well ahead of the game

My friend(Ah yes, the noble friend) uses a site to stream content every now and then for his personal use and you'd never know it was not a legit site. Streaming commercials from(among others) Colgate,Toyota,GM(Yup..GM),Febreeze, etc and print ads from many many more.

If by some chance they pick a fight with my ol buddy about said content, his first shot out of the gate will be the screen shot file he's comprised of said ads and the question of"If your content is so precious why are these companies who are profiting from it not on your docket list?.How serious are you really? Were those companies hard to find..or were you maybe getting a cut all the time?.
