Was in the area stopped to check it out. Nothing to write home about. A whole bunch of booths that were handing out flyers, remittance, financial, filipino t-shirts.
Not too many food booths, grilled corn, kebabs.
Will not repeat.

First I've heard of this festival, so they're probably not that well organized. Give them a few years and it will be a crazy mess like Danforth.

It was on the local news a few times.
Apparently Justin Trudeau made an appearance yesterday.

I can think of a few treats from the Philippines I'd like to sample.

Be careful. Fillipinos are known to be dog eaters. Witnessed it first hand, family kept a Dachshund on a short leash to fatten him up.

It's kinda a overplayed urban myth, yes, many Asian cultures eat almost all animals , but only on special occasions, as the meat is much more expensive than the standard pork and chicken.

No , they do not fatten up their own pets, then eat them, there are specific mixed breed dogs they use and they are handled no different than other farm animals.

In reality, in the Philippines, it's fallen out of favour and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone under 40 who's actually tried dog.

Oh yea, many farms keep turkeys as pets, but don't actually eat them.

I saw it with my own eyes. Fillipino family that were almost my neighbors, they kept a dachshund on a short leash in their backyard. We were doing a neighbourhood fence building program at the time. I felt bad for the little fella, he knew he was destined for a bad end. Sure enough Easter rolled around and he was gone.

Maybe the family had re-homed the dachshund or they were just taking care of the dog temporarily?

Possibly.

But Fillipinos are super Catholics (except for western Mindanao and the archipelago that connects to Indonesia), Easter is a big feast day. More than likely that cute little dachshund ended up in the stew pot.

The title of this thread had so much promise. Was hoping to read about the taste of pussy rather than dog. Lol!

I was there around noon, there were not too many nice ones. They had a big stage setup, so maybe in the evening..

Look, the bottom line is, if you eat meat, which I do, how can you criticize another for eating meat as well, whether it be from a goat, pig, rat, snake, dog, fish, whatever.
Exactly, this is why I didn't call The Humane Society. Western Culture is barbaric who are we to judge others. Those McDonald's and Marineland ads during the Olympics had me tearing the rest of my hair out. Kids visiting a farm and being shown beef cattle like they are cute cuddly overgrown muppets only to have them brutally butchered for so that McDonald's can keep the obesity rate growing. I grew up with Marineland and my children should as well - go fuck yourself! Marine mammals die horribly in captivity.

The last time I was at Marineland I saw so many diseased animals, I puked.

I really hope you're kidding................

But yes, I agree with the OP, I was at Taste of Manila over the weekend and was very disappointed by the lack of food stalls and as someone who doesn't require immigration services or sends money back to the Philippines, this year was a bit of a let down. Last year, the place was overflowing with all kinds of food.

I wish I was. But like Ozzy said, I saw it with my own two eyes.
So on the Easter that you saw this happen, did you see the "cute little daschund" as it was led into the kitchen to be butchered and did you then see it getting cooked and subsequently eaten by these barbaric Filipinos, OR did you just assume because of the stereotype that Asian people eat dogs? I hardly doubt that a family of Filipinos who was able to immigrate to Canada and can most likely afford meat at the grocery store needs to fatten up their tiny daschund to eat for Easter.

If you check my previous post, I never said Fillipinos are barbaric. Western societies far exceed Asiatic ones in that regard. Fillipinos never held Carneficas where political prisoners were hung, drawn and quartered. Fillipinos are devoutly Catholic, they are one of the few countries that reenact Christ's Passion on Good Friday.

They were probably having difficultly finding money for groceries. The fences I was building were at the townhouses of John Garland and Finch - not exactly an affluent area. Apart from the short leash the dog appeared well fed and had shelter from the cold. There was no fecal matter in his roaming area. The dog disappeared after the Easter Long Weekend - what am I supposed to conclude from that?

That's your op.

I'm the least racist person on this board, I never would have survived in my previous occupation if I was. I interacted with Blacks, Muslims and South Asians on a daily basis, I used to get invited to Diwali celebrations annually.
