I disagree with you...I don't think it's a hatred towards immigrants....it's frustration at the fact that they take for granted the freedom they have here. They come here for a better life but keep bringing with them, the problems they ran away from. The illegal protests and threats of escalation if they don't get what they want understates the lack of intelligence held by these 'sharper' immigrants.
Before you start slamming me, I am an immigrant as well and even though I'm not white, I take offence to your statement about 'lot of white guys are not as sharp'. There's an equal amount of idiots at the top and they come in all colours. If anything, some of the non-white guys hold these high posts only because they're non-white and raised shit about not enough visible minorities in management instead of working hard to get there using their own skills and intelligence to move up into management.
I do sympathize with the loss of life in SL but I don't sympathize with the terrorists hiding behind human shields...both in SR and in Toronto. The attention this has brought to the issue in SR is negative. Is this what you hope to gain?
We are all frustrated at everyone bringing their battles here. If immigrants come here to get away from things such as this, and to create a better life for themselves and their families, great, you're welcome to be here. If you have to bring your wars with you and abuse the legal rights you do have, then, please, do us all a favour and go fight your battles where they are currently raging.
Curious Newbee, I will not slam you buddy. All I will say is this - I love this country and all that it provides. Like you, sometimes I feel immigrants take Canada for granted. I feel it when Khadr' family abuses the hospitality of this nation. I felt it when so many "used" Canada for citizenship-of-convenience during the crisis in Lebanon last year. My pyramid rant was merely a response to the anti-immigrant rant from another Terbite.
Having said this, I do wish to respond to a comment that you made. You said "If you have to bring your wars with you and abuse the legal rights you do have, then, please, do us all a favour and go fight your battles where they are currently raging". Immigrants are not machines. They are people with feelings. If they grow up with certain values and culinary preferences, it cannot be shed off overnight once they enter Canada. Besides they cannot be expected to cut off all family connection with their relatives in their birth-country. When a relative in their birth-country suffers, they cannot but feel the pain.
I do feel though, that if an immigrant comes here, and starts imposing his values onto others, then it is taking it too far.
Unlike you and I, who made a conscious decision to immigrate to Canada because we were educated and wanted a better life, most of the Sri Lankan Tamils were driven out by their government. They were mostly illiterate or semi-literate rural folks who were forced out of their home. They settled wherever they could - majority settled in India, some fled to Canada, UK, Germany, France etc. If they cannot speak proper English, if they act like rural bumpkins, if they do not understand the Canadian system, don't ridicule them. ... empathize with them instead.
