Any Tamil protestor who thinks this strategy is going to be effective needs to reflect on how far they have advanced their cause so far.

One has to conclude that this is all about trying to "feel better" by fooling themselves into thinking that they are doing something useful for their "relatives".

Has any past political demonstration actually resulted in demonstrators changing government policy ? Or resulted in any specific government action demanded by said protestors ?

The whole notion of the Tamil people as being oppressed falls to the ground when you look at the political map of a seperated Sri Lanka. When the Tigers had the advantage ethnic cleansing was conducted in areas they claimed for themselves. Could the Sinhalese live in a rump state knowing that they would be under continual attack?
