Except.... the layman's view doesn't factor in 500 years of unwritten rules in the legal and judicial professions as to how things should be done and are done.
That incredibly sophisticated tapestry of legal thought amounts to - "Of course we aren't influenced by the personal biases that would influence any ordinary person - we're better than you rabble!"

What a wonder 500 years of legal thought has produced! So persuasive! LOL!

About 50% of the Bench probably has an affiliation to either the Liberals or the Tories. They swear an oath to be impartial. A reasonable person would accept that oath, unless the judge was him / herself directly involved in the facts of the case.
That's also a direct statement of the law of judicial bias.

It's aligned with what judges and lawyers believe is appropriate and proper behaviour when accepting a judicial appointment. So it's the appropriate standard.
Too funny
Here you are thinking you are competent to preach about the application of the law and the use of force vs. law enforcement against peaceful protestors
Meanwhile approximately 18 months ago you were preaching about defunding law enforcement

a hypocritical opinion is worth nothing

...and, if convicted, publicly hung on Parliament Hill. Make an example of them.

The fact that Canada has no death penalty might put a crimp in those plans.
The government should release these traitors to the angry anti-protestor mobs who have had enough of the siege and may want to see these traitors get drawn and quartered. Hanging would not be applicable in this case. Maybe these traitors are safer in jail and should be happy about not being granted bail.

The Armed Forces and RCMP should be dispatched to Alberta to protect oil patch installation from domestic terrorism and to disband alt right insurrectionists groups which are funded by disgruntled foreign actors who lost the election south of the border. As Alberta moves closer to becoming a “have not province” the potential for more occupations and sieges perpetuated by disgruntled desperados will occur.

OK, I must admit, I am lost. I do believe some of the comments on this and last pages are sarcasm, but with all the ultra-left violence in this forum, I am not sure anymore.

There has been no mortality that we known of yet in this so called protest turned to the criminality of siege and failed coup. However the rampant morbidity is everywhere . And there are more dimensions to this than just ultra left and ultra right politics. Bipartisan American style politics does not necessarily apply to Canada .

Since when is legitimate protest illegal shit? What fucking cosmic bunny hole have you lefties fallen into? Just because you don't agree with them and want to remain cucks of the government, doesn't make their cause illegal.
Blocking roads is illegal. Therefore, a protest who's main call to action is to block roads is an illegal protest. Don't know why this is so difficult for you to understand. It's one thing for a crowd to take to the streets for a day, but blocking traffic for three weeks in a major city is unacceptable, regardless of the cause. You can bet your ass the Ottawa police probably would have broken up most other protests, but the semis were a major issue. Not easy to tow, and they gave the drivers a place to sleep and warm up.While their cause may not be illegal, their actions were. And, donating money to help sustain illegal activity is usually frowned upon.

Here's a point you don't seem to understand. It doesn't matter whether protesters "intend" to block roads, or simply block roads because overwhelming crowd numbers make it unavoidable, blocking roads is at minimum a traffic violation and at most a criminal offense.

However, every large scale protest or labour picketing results in broken laws.

Nevertheless, in our society, we generally provide some degree of tolerance for it, because we try to balance the right to protest with enforcement of the law. It's always just a question of where you strike this balance. And you hope that a government won't play favourites on striking that balance based on what the protest is about.

This seditious, malicious, self-righteous twat should be denied bail until are of her activities and affiliations have been thorough vetted. Likely she has been asked to surrender her passport as she is a flight risk and May seek asylum south of the border or elsewhere with the help of her husband‘s private jet benefactors. She should be strung up and hanged (legally not physically).
She has shown that she cannot keep the peace and be of good behavior and continues to hold the Canadian court, government and laws in contempt.
Was she not a past member of the Maverick Party, a Western Canada based separatist group ?

I agree, it is a question of balance. I guess three weeks of blocking roads or disrupting international trade for a few days is where some people might reasonably draw the line.

Well Dutch, write to every Law Society and judge in Canada - and the UK, Australia and the USA (all of whom have the same rule) - and put your foot down. Tell them that you've had enough. You were persuasive with your other causes, like the James Field trial and the Trump election litigation where you wrote to all those 50 courts that dismissed Trump's litigation attempts and explained how biased and corrupt they were.

Stand up and be a man, Dutch! You've endured this outrage long enough.

I suggest you get your wooliest muffler and stand outside Judge Bourgeois' courtroom with a placard. If they come to arrest and remove you, fight back.

You are a cornucopia of bad advice (nevermind your equally bad legal analysis and intentional mis-statement of facts). You don't change rules developed by lawyers and Judges by appealing to lawyers and Judges. They're the reason for the crappy rules in the first place! These rules are in their interest. You change these rules by passing laws, and that takes political action, including protesting.

I'm sure you know this, so I assume your bad advice is intentional. More diversion from the mandarin class.

Yuh, it's what I suggested. Get a placard. Stand outside the courtroom. Everyone who walks past, grab them and say: "I just want some justice here!"

You'll be a hero.

Not only do you give bad advice, you also appear to need to learn everything twice. Standing outside a courthouse is protesting to the court. Courts are not going to fix this problem, because they had a hand in creating it. You need to stand with your placard, and with many other Canadians with their placards, outside the Federal capital or the Provincial capital, if such protests are ever legal again.

These Alberta seditionists put away their Confederate Flags and Nazi symbols on day two of the occupation and feigned innocence. They clearly have evil intent and are self-righteous, dumb and dangerous and showed be checked vigorously.
Thank you. Given your reply to my "I am lost" post, now I know this is sarcasm. What worries me is that some people with ultra-left ideology assume that your post are a real thing and react with "like " :). I agree with you, there are lots of division and lots of ultra-left and ultra-right, it is just on TERB ultra-left are the most blood-hungry. Thank you for your sarcastic posts and I am just wondering how more bloody your posts must be for Frankfooter and Mandril to realise you are just being sarcastic :)

You are insane, the left wingers here never use sarcasm or humour.
We are earnest comrades and that would get in the way of winning all debates.
