Even the Star took a shit on him, the Terb libtards don't have the balls to admit that he did the wrong thing. Even when you agree with him with most things, have the integrity to admit that he did the wrong thing here. This was the first national day of truth and reconciliation, he's the PM of Canada. He could've gone to one of the ceremonies and then fly to BC. He just doesn't give a fuck.

C’mon, man! Trudeau’s Tofino holiday makes a mockery of reconciliation day

By Star Editorial Board

We don’t begrudge Justin Trudeau some time off after a gruelling election campaign. And we sympathize with his desire to have a few days with his family.

But of his decision to spend the first ever National Day for Truth and Reconciliation flying to Tofino, B.C., for a seaside vacation, we have only this to say: C’mon, man!

This was a shocking lapse in judgment. It was the Trudeau government, after all, that pushed through legislation (with all-party support) in July to make Sept. 30 a national day to remember the legacy of residential schools.

With all such firsts, part of the struggle is to make people take it seriously. It should not be just a day off for those who get such a benefit, or something to be acknowledged only in passing. That is, if it’s going to be anything more than an empty gesture.

Political leaders obviously should set an example for the rest of us. So seeing the prime minister use the inaugural national day to start a personal holiday, however well-deserved, is frankly infuriating. (It’s even worse that his official itinerary first showed him spending Thursday in private meetings in Ottawa, and was only later updated to acknowledge the trip to Tofino.)

But don’t listen to us, or to Trudeau’s political opponents who will quite predictably use this incident to slam him as hypocritical, shallow, selfish.... all of that.

Listen instead to the Indigenous leaders who are deeply disappointed that the prime minister’s fine words about healing after past wrongs, and his support for establishing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in the first place, aren’t matched by his actions.

They aren’t impressed by his office’s lame explanation that Trudeau spent time on the flight west talking by phone to residential school survivors, or that he attended an event in Ottawa on the eve of the national day.

The Native Women’s Association of Canada says the trip casts doubt on the prime minister’s sincerity when he says no relationship is more important to him than that with Indigenous peoples: “Those words ring incredibly hollow when Mr. Trudeau could not take the time that his own government set aside to reflect upon the tragedy of the Indian residential schools and instead chose to flit off to Tofino for a holiday.”

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, president of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs, said the way Trudeau chose to spend the first national day was a “slap in the face” to residential school survivors.

And the First Nation that first discovered unmarked graves of children near a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C., said it had issued two written invitations for the prime minister to attend a ceremony there on Thursday. He would have flown practically right over Kamloops on his trip to Vancouver Island, but clearly didn’t bother to stop.

Indeed, he could have done something meaningful in Tofino itself. Members of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council held a walk there to mark the national day, and vice-president Mariah Charleson said they were shocked that they didn’t even know the prime minister would be in the area. “It’s the first day Canada has said countrywide, let’s find a way to move forward,” she said. “And our top leader of our country did not choose to do that. It’s heartbreaking, honestly.”

What’s left to say after that? The prime minister should at least apologize and try to find a way to make amends.

But actions really do speak louder than words, and damage has clearly been done. How much better it would be to do the right thing in the first place than struggle to repair things after the fact.

That's funny.

This is at the very least Justin's 5th scandal.

It shows what a complete and utter hypocrite he is, how tone deaf, and frankly how dumb he is.

And you know it.

But go ahead, keep defending this incompetent boob.

I assumed it was just a typo.

He meant to say clown. I figured that out. I thought it was obvious to everyone. I guess I over estimated.

Hope this helps.

Imagine the nerve of someone taking a day off on a holiday to be with their family after just campaigning all summer.

I'm sure he shed a tear while surfing.

CANFORCE 1 departed Ottawa for regular Trudeau surfing spot in Tofino, B.C. early Thursday morning

On Canada’s first day honouring lives both lost and destroyed through our country’s detestable treatment of our Indigenous peoples, the Prime Minister spent much of Thursday jetting off to the left coast.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Eastern time, a Canadian Forces Challenger 604 departed Ottawa International Airport on a northwesterly course away from our nation’s capital.

Its callsign — CANFORCE 1 — indicated Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was among those aboard the sleek, 10-seater business jet — despite the PMO’s public itinerary listing his activities for the day as ‘private meetings’ in Ottawa.

As the day progressed, so did the aircraft — eventually touching down at Tofino Long Beach Airport, a favourite vacation and surfing spot for the Trudeaus.

The impromptu vacation was confirmed by the PMO.

“The Prime Minister is spending time in Tofino with family for a few days,” PMO Press Secretary Alex Wellstead wrote in an email to the Sun.

“Following his participation in last night’s ceremony marking the first National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, he is speaking today with residential school survivors from across the country.”

In April 2019, locals snapped photos of the wetsuit-clad Prime Minister surfing Tofino’s famous waves.

In 2016, a wedding photographer snapped a shot of a shirtless Trudeau crashing a wedding along the same beach.

Reaction to Trudeau’s apparent snub of National Truth and Reconciliation Day came swiftly.

Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc, the First Nations community near Kamloops, B.C. where the bodies of as many 200 children were found buried outside of a residential school, tweeted they’d extended two ‘heartfelt’ invitations for the Prime Minister to commemorate the day with survivors and their families.

Opposition parties also took a dim view of the PM’s vacation timing.

“Truth and Reconciliation Day shouldn’t be treated like a holiday — but that’s what Justin Trudeau did,” Conservative Party of Canada spokesperson Chelsea Tucker told the Sun.

“This is the pattern Canadians have come to know with Justin Trudeau. He says nice things about reconciliation but never follows through.”

“As Prime Minister, Erin O’Toole will always mark this day with the respect and dignity it deserves.”

Is it too late for a re-vote to get rid of Trudeau. He must be a big disappointment to his father.

I thought it was obvious to everyone based upon the whining, bellyaching and tantrums on this board by the 3 time losers.

I guess I overestimated.

Hope this helps.

What puzzles me is that his track record is littered with photo ops of crocodile tears and selfies. Yet with the inaugural Truth & Reconciliation Day, a holiday he created and a cause he has trumpeted for many years, he is missing in action and not front & center.

If this was the 3rd or 4th year of this holiday, or if this was something that Harper had implemented I could understand that he was "busy" that day.

This is strange behavior, even from him.

I stand corrected on this. I just saw it posted on the CBC. Slightly off topic but I look at the CBC website for news on a regular basis and I have noticed that comments are often turned off when negative stories are out that comments should be allowed for. Anybody else notice this.
600 million dollars will buy you favors like that.
Try saying anything negative against the Liberals once comments are on, immediately removed
