I have lots of friends/acquaintances that are teachers. Their sickening union has done a fantastic job convincing them how hard-done by they are the government and making them complain about everything.

There is no group that has it better, that is more miserable and does more complaining than the teachers. Everytime they start complaining I WANT TO PUKE ALL OVER THEM. I wish the government had the guts next time that they want to work- to -rule or to strike to fire everyone of them that does that and replace them with part-time supply teachers.

The Teachers aren't a problem, the Union is a huge pain in the ass.

Remember when Postal worker unions would go on strike, they don't do that anymore.

they don't do it anymore since mail has dropped way down. they are just happy to have a job now and stay quiet .....when people figure out that online learning is much better we will require less teachers they may start being quiet as well......

The Sunshine List is a tempest in a teapot. It is irrelevant because the benchmark hasn't been adjusted for inflation over the years. $100,000 was always an arbitrary figure anyway. It's not like it was determined to be the average or mean salary of an Ontarian. it was just a number Mike Harris pulled out of his a$$.

Conservatives like to pull things out of their ass as evidenced here by the discussion on teachers, their union how wonderful online learning is.

Correct.

Making a hundred grand a year in 2021 is not like making a hundred grand a year was in 1994. We're talking almost 30 years.

When I look at the list, what amazes me is not that government workers make 100 k a year, what amazes me is how many people have jobs making 100k a year that I have no idea what the job possibly entails or why it even exists.

Anyone think this list has the same relevance it has as when it was created in 1996?

If it had any connection with inflation it might be useful but as it is it's simply an excuse for people to complain about government workers.

(and for some reason, most complaints aren't about the huge numbers of cops on the list)

teachers are WAY overpaid and underworked this whole pandemic they cried and continue to cry the loudest out of everyone I heard a radio ad today from the teachers union crying more

cut the lot of them let them work a real job 40+ hours a week the WHOLE year No 2 weeks off at Christmas and 1 week off in march plus the whole summer off

Average resale home purchase price was $240,000 back then.

A yearly earnings of 100K is a lot of money but not what it used to be...the point I was making in the original post was teachers have increased 200% in the last year of being on the Sunshine list, and yet they are the biggest complainers of the way they are being treated.

I think cops deserve 100k a year than most if not all teachers.

I am with you on this. 5 years after leaving University I was making $110k a year and, frankly, I had trouble justifying it. I was surrounded by people in the same boat. Compared to a teacher's job my job was a joke. Personally, I think teachers should be paid very well given the role they play in society and their responsibility they have for instructing children. In the current context their jobs are particularly risky. On top of that you have increased violence in the schools and discipline problems. Not a happy situation.

I think the trouble with the 100k salary is that once you become a government worker, good or bad, you get paid based on your union contract. Bad teachers make the same as good teachers.
In my experience, about 10 percent deserve more...and 90 percent deserve less. The list doesn’t have a way to sift through an individual’s performance.
All we are looking at is how good their union performed for their members as a whole.

Adjust it for inflation and it will instantly become relevant again. Instead of $100k, let the cutoff be $150k or $200k. It's a great list to have access to and good on the Harris government for implementing it for transparency.

So this thread is just another excuse to bitch about teachers?
But nice that you think some guy driving around, ticketing speeders, and directing traffic at construction sites deserves 100K.

To be accurate, the number of teachers on the list has doubled. From what I understand, teacher pay has lagged inflation since 1996.

I believe around $160 K would be the appropriate level.
