Anyone tried this? Just took a deep dive into what harm sugar causes, may give it a try?

Besides a diabetes risk, most sugar is high in carbs.

The only diet I have ever been able to lose or maintain weight is Keto. Forget calories and fat; low carb, for me, is filling, and without the insulin response from carbs, diet, fat does not go to men's bullies, and you get into ketosis, where body fat is burned. It is a complex chemical reaction, but it works for many who enjoy Keto - Atkins was kind of the pioneer decades ago, and I still enjoy many of their meals.

I do not cook, just microwave almost everything. Also use Keto bread, jam, maple syrup, ice creams etc, which have artificial sugars that do not spike insulin. You just can't have too much or will be loose in the rear end :)

ketosis Can be harmful to your body. It is not recommended to remain in ketosis for more then 6 months.

Do not overthink it because it is really all about calories in calories out. If most average males stick to 2000 calories a day they will lose weight.

Consider eating low-calorie high-volume foods to achieve the 2000 calories and you will be a happy camper instead of a binge eater when no one is looking.

If one consumes more than they burn and exceeds their maintenance calories for the day, they will gain weight and it doesn't matter what fad diet they are following.

I don't cook either which leads me to believe I won't follow their cooking part. Can you pm your meals? Is this stuff all in grocery stores? I guess you're in the usa?

I'm a microwaver too.

I can't do dry January's lol but I do try a sweet-free month instead (a bitter January? Lol).. Avoid cookies, cake, doughnuts, chocolate, any dessert-like item. I do find after a month when I've had a routine blood test that my cholesterol and triglycerides do react very well to this. Plus, after the month is over, I find I can be satisfied with less sugar (eg one doughnut v 2, smaller bits of chocolate etc).

Ps the first 3 days are the hardest. You so much crave something to go with the coffee or after dinner. But hang in there. If you get through 3 days you start to notice it becomes easier to turn down the sweets.

I went Keto a few years ago for 3 months. No refined sugars. I dropped 50 lbs in that time and actually got off my BP pills. I was getting light headed from such low BP. When I had a piece of cake at a birthday that 3rd month, my upper lip started tingling. I felt crazy. Sugar is one of the strongest drugs they give us. I couldn't believe how much it immediately affected me.

You stopped Keto after 3 months or didn't need it?

For me it was a quick way to get into vacation shape. At the time I was way heavier than I ever had been, got sick of being so out of shape and so I went extreme the other way. After 3 months I started to have a cheat day on Saturday. Then the weekend. Then you find "you cant outwork a bad diet" (not my quote)
Sugar always calls me back.

Most people don't realize how powerful sugar actually is. Given the choice between cocaine and sugar rats pick sugar more often than not. Also sugar is added to literally everything for that reason and most people don't even realize when they are consuming it.

Just avoid refined sugars - sugar, baked goods, pasta, white bread, sugary drinks etc.,

Include healthy carbs - whole grains, legumes, veggies, fruits etc.,

All foods have carbs, but it only matters what type of carbs you eat.

Other than this, stick to lean protein, healthy moderate fats. You will lose weight.

The calories in vs calories out module. The rules of thermodynamics and all, work fine in a closed system, but your body isn't a closed system. Think hormones and inflammation.

There's a thought that insulin spikes are needed to absorb minerals. Sugar within a food matrix seems to be much better tolerated than processed sugar. Eating too much sugar can promote the increase of ghrelin. Which drives hunger. high sugar diets are associated with leptin resistance. Which also increases appetite. Sugar releases dopamine and is therefore thought to have addictive potential..Of course the big food conglomerates figured this out years ago and combined sugar wit fat and salt to maximize its effect and in tow their profits.

Some of the carnivore space podcasters are adding fruit and organic honey into their menu these days. They're finding that their blood work after long term constant zero carb intake wasn't coming out to well. Hormone profiles were affected as well as electrolytes.

Most everyone seems to accept that processed foods are a deterrent to good health. There's a growing trend of belief that claims seed oils are right there as well. So safflower, sunflower, corn, canola, cottonseed, soybean and rapeseed. Their marketed as vegetable oils but are really seed oils. the thought is that they cause massive inflammatory responses within the body.

Here's another aspect that doesn't get talked about much...Your microbiome. Sugar consumption can lead to changes in your gut microbiota that can lead to inflammation thus affecting your immune system which leads to metabolic disease and deleterious health outcomes.

As I'm typing this I'm just finishing a bowl of white rice, mixed vegetables, squash , mixed with some coconut oil. So there's that.

It is all about thermodynamics and calories in calories out. Of course, it is easier to stay in a calorie deficit if one sticks to lean protein with lots of veggies as opposed to a plate of pasta and meatballs with a hunk of cheesecake for dessert LOL.

One can eat a Big Mac for Breakfast, lunch, and Dinner, hit the gym for muscle retention or not if it's just about losing fat and be guaranteed they will start shedding weight and look great. I wouldn't say it would be a great idea for long-term health but to lose weight, it would work.

Please don’t make statements about thermodynamics and open versus closed systems unless you have studied thermodynamics. A an engineer, I will tell you that your statement is wrong.

Please read Zoe Harcombe's book The Obesity Epidemic where she covers this in detail and tell me where she is wrong.
