Suck it - city of Barrie!

Just talked to a lovely indy escort friend of mine. She appeared in court yesterday along with 4 or 5 others who got nailed by Barrie bylaw and local cops a month or so ago.

They were all fined $1000!....or more! My friend even tried to get a license and she can't because you can only get one through an agency - so no indy can get one.

She is an incall girl but she made an exception because of the polite begging and was basically entrapped. Luckily she doesn't live here. And we all lose because she is never coming back.

They mostly nailed out-of-town indies and she says none are returning out of that group. It is traumatic facing a room full of cops and bylaw people. She said most of them pleaded guilty.

This is really unfair. These ladies are being punished for not having a license that the city won't give them anyway. It will take my friend 10 calls to make the money for this fine. Thanks Barrie.

That is sad. It really is and totally unfair as it allows for agencies to dominate the market and rat out anyone they see touring as it will dip into business for them.

It only makes sense for ladies to not risk it and leave Barrie to the others that can work there legally. Leaves a lot of people both indies and clients screwed.

makes you wonder why they have the rules set up that way and if there was any agency involvement in that decision.

I think there is only one licensed agency and they got nailed too.

The city got money from the province to investigate human trafficking. When they couldn't find any they went after licenses instead.

but you are right - these rules make no sense. i bet the city never consulted with anyone in the business when they made this bylaw.

Not like to see any lady or otherwise get charged, but did not some of those sps not have out-calls in there posts (out in public), as i know one sp was charged for leaving hotel on hart drive and getting into a car with under cover police officer, how under planning was that-entrapment at its best, if a client will drive to hotel to pick you up, why not insist he or she come inside unless you know them before hand, a no brain er??. Keep it inside and discreet as possible or set up some type of thought out plan for out-calls .IMO only. Sorry about your friend, but there has been a shady group of sps lurking in Barrie of late, with attempts of entrapping clients with fake pics, false claims of service or rip off with incomplete service etc. Its risky business at best of times, lets not make it more risky for sps or clients. I say thanks Barrie for being as open as it is to this business at most of times. Its over for now, yet always ongoing, try and let it be , keep slamming the Police and they will return sooner than later, that's their job ?, hell some are clients i hear LOL, Yes these boards are a added safety, re police , shady sps and or bad clients etc, so thank you for your info * krazyplayer*--------- They did a documentary on TV few months back showing how Police monitor Back-page on a daily basses and response to complaints of any kind from other guests and or hotels etc. This not meant to stir up a hornets nest, just my personal opinion on few things,as the somewhat careful professional ladies i know do ok, discreet at work and not taking unnecessary risks and have been in the business for a spell"""""", with out to much hassle--knock on wood

All the girls from yesterday were busted inside hotel rooms (3 girls didn't show up). Oh and the cops aren't done by the way - they told the girls (unless they are lying) that investigations continue....not bylaw stuff - cop stuff (bawdy house?).

They also said in court how they picked everyone. It was all from backpage and not from websites like the Barrie Advance story said. Of course the Advance also said the fines would only be $250.

http://www.simcoe.com/news-story/2502522-barrie-escorts-charged/

Also I think it is fair to warn people about stuff.
I think these are unfair set-ups. And I have also heard that a couple of residences were very recently raided. This is all bullshit IMO. The bawdy house laws are about to be overturned - it goes to supreme court this summer, and now the Barrie cops want to tackle bawdy houses???

Oh and your welcome everyone for the heads-up.

Best Western and Holiday Inn were mentioned. I do know the indy goddess who won't be returning and I do know one agency girl who were both in court.
They read out all the particulars when you plead guilty, so they both had the deets on all the cases that appeared that day. I don't think they want anyone to know who they are.

I also know that a lot of people knew about this from the day it started in February. It went on for another week or 2 setting people up and no one said anything. Some of this could have been prevented, but I guess people are worried about being targeted by the police if they out an ongoing thing....which might be smart. Smartness is not my strong suit apparently.

There were 4 cases that weren't discussed because 3 girls didn't show up and one didn't plead guilty, so i never heard the story about those ones.
I haven't seen any media in the Examiner and just the one story from weeks ago in the Advance.

Point well taken, yet it a fine line in this business as selling sexual services is not illegal, its how the transaction is procured, that is the sticky part. Its written somewhat, only legal way is out-calls or moving from hotel room to hotel room, yet agency girls still get charged along with indies.
Not your writings but did not hear that any sps were charged inside their rooms in latest crack down. could be a fact thou
Law makers can not or will not figure it out as of yet, so no sense of anyone saying one way or other is totally legal.
By laws in Barrie or elsewhere are usually enforced by a complaint driven enforcement method, yet criminal element still lurks and most are usually drawn up because of personal interest groups or neighborhoods. who can justify their need whether right or wrong ( like putting up signs on public property is illegal, but you have to be caught LOL).
Been discreet, not using or selling drugs in workplace having respect for others around you, and or in same business as one or careful with the ones who one is dealing with, can go a long way to ones safety and longevity, despite bylaws. If one stands out like sore thumb *ouch*
Do not piss off thee neighbor or another aiming for same dollar, so to speak.
You seem like amazing lady you do,

None were charged with criminal offenses. They nailed them with bylaw offenses like not having a license to work in Barrie or having an unlicensed driver.
All in-calls (where an SP hosts) are illegal under the bawdy house section of the criminal code. Out-calls have always been legal.
Barrie is one of only 2 cities in Ontario that makes escorts get a license.

This was initiated because the police are trying to find trafficking victims. They are being trained now that trafficking is rampant. The province funded it.
Unfortunately they involved the Barrie bylaw office in case they couldn't find any underage or trafficked people - so it wasn't a total waste of money.
It ended up they didn't find any of those problems so all they did was hand out licensing tickets.

This was not a complaint driven investigation. It was an anti-trafficking initiative.

Other rumours and allegations allegedly came into it once bylaw was involved. One agency is actually gone now because of this.

Thanks for your clarification of event, as that is what TV documentary was about before this recent crack down and showed some working girls saying, after they got nabbed that they were cohered into working and so on. ( can and does happen i hear, yet also makes a good defense issue, and brings in police and goverment presence)--- City of Barrie not be that bad after all maybe, lot of places not allow at all .. Find out how this bylaw came to be in first place and why only agency girls can get a so called license? and part of our answer may be found, likely business driven. Hope we all can enjoy our personal choices with out hassle. Thanks again and lets remember, play and work as safe as possible.

Just to clarify a few things...

While sex work is legal, virtually every activity surrounding it is not. The Criminal Code of Canada prohibits:

* Communicating for the purposes of prostitution in public (s. 213 “communicating”)

* The use of indoor workspaces (s. 210 “bawdyhouses”)

* The transportation to a working space (s. 211) and managerial and/or collective activities (s. 212 “procuring”)

Independent outcalls are totally legal....except in Barrie where the bylaws make it a municipal infraction.

Yes, they are...except for the driver, the receptionist that booked the call, any third party involvement (these people can be charged under the "pimping" law) or if the call was booked in a public location on a cell phone,("communicating" law) and if the location is used more than once, both parties can be charged ("bawdy house" law). The ONLY legal aspect of sex work is the act of exchanging sexual services for a fee. That part is completely legal.

It doesn't happen too often that independent providers and their associates are charged, but it Does happen.

lol you may want to re read the criminal code and the terms contained in these sections specifically. You're almost there

I have read the criminal code, specifically these sections. I've simplified in my reply. What part exactly are you referring to?
