I love Don Covay’s Have Mercy, Mick borrowed a lot of his singing style.
It’s great they always gave full credit to the R&B and Blues giants who influenced them.
No. 2 has Time is on my Side, a cover of the great Irma Thomas.

I used their UK albums in rankings rather than their international records. Rolling Stones No. 2 is a UK release, but you'll recognize a few of the songs from 12 X 5 and Rolling Stones Now (I think those would be the records). I used to have an old, beat-up copy of No. 2 that I bought years ago at a second-hand shop in Winnipeg. I think my brother probably has it now, as I gave a bunch of records to him some years back.

Here is Rolling Stones No. 2:

I know there are also UK and International versions of Out of Our Heads -- the International version includes Satisfaction on it but the UK version does not (the UK Out of Our Heads also uses the cover of December's Children) and the other songs are slightly different. Could this be the version you're referring to?

a great R&B groove with lots of horns........the Rolling Stones were great at taking these songs and making them palatable to young white ears.....including me...way back when lol.. the ultimate irony was that the tune was written by 2 Jewish guys..Leiber and Stoller

It’s a good thing the thread says “studio” albums because anybody that knows anything knows that “Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out” is the best Rolling Stones album.

1. Sticky Fingers
2. Disc 1 of Exile. Plus Happy and Shine a Light on Disc 2. Lots of filler otherwise.
3. Let It Bleed
4. Beggars Banquet
5. A couple of songs on Black and Blue.

Nothing else really counts.
Undoubtedly they were great but their reputation stems a lot from their longevity.

Disagree. My favourite Stones albums are all from the 68-72 period and they fell off after that.

I think Keith is a real character and likeable in a "stoned old geezer" sort of way. But I wouldn't bother seeing them now.

I agree with everything you say. I don't know if there are any dinosaur acts out there that I'd pay to see.

68-72? IMHO, that sort of reinforces my opinion. We agree on how their career went, but I guess our interpretations are different.
