Strippers back, but keeping their masks on

I'm staying away, hopefully they'll have vaccines soon

Strippers are among those returning to work, but don’t expect them to peel off their masks.

Shuttered since March, strip clubs are among the bars and restaurants opening now that the provincial government has pushed the province into Stage 3.

“We can only allow 50 people and we have 450 seats so we aren’t busy,” Spiro, of the House of Lancaster — at Bloor and Dufferin Sts. — said, adding people must phone ahead to make a reservation.

“It’s been a lot of work getting ready to open and people — the dancers, bartenders and waitresses — are scared to work.”

Tables must be two metres apart and there can only be 10 guests per table. Strippers can dance on stage, but guests cannot join them.

Patrons can only remove their masks if eating or drinking.

Howard Adams, president of Filmores Gentleman’s Club, said the process to open was “overwhelming with staff training and health requirements.”
Customers and staff must have their temperatures taken before entering.
“When a dancer is not on stage and is in the club soliciting business from a customer, well she isn’t in his bubble. She can approach the table but must have PPE on and when she leaves she has to sanitize the chair and table she was at,” Adams said.
If a dancer takes a customer into the Players Lounge for a lap dance, both must be masked.

The dancer must also wash her hands before and after and sanitize the booth for the next customer.

John, of Hunk Entertainment, is sending male strippers out to locations but there can only be 10 people.

“That is the way we keep it safe and I think things are getting safer,” John said.

Sundowner report.

Was passing by today so I thought I would stop in to see what the new rules are like. You go in with a face covering on.They scan your ID and you fill out a medical questionnaire. Once inside you can off your face covering. The ladies have to wear a see through face covering. Tables have been removed to create social distance between tables. Stage shows were going on. If you go to the back VIP there is NO CONTACT. The lady will stand about 6 feet away and strip or she can sit beside you and all you can do is chat.Once you leave there is a dedicated waitress that cleans the booth. Also tables are cleaned when someone leaves. You exit the club from the front door.
Only open Friday and Saturday 6pm-2pm. Closed rest of the week.

Strip clubs were sooo much fun in the 90s. I lived close to Cheaters and did ton of takeout.

Strip clubs are a failed business model. Even before covid.

I wish it wasn't true be the reality is that it is.

Probably, but why?
Obviously drinking and driving laws started the ball rolling about not having a liquid lunch. Then the smoking ban.

But what else? Is it the fact that there are more women at work, and therefore 'the guys' don't hit the rippers after 5?

Everybody points to the number of MPs around. And while I guess they are a chief reason that horny man's discretionary spending no longer goes to Strip Clubs, they just seem so 'clinical' to me. At least a SC gives one the impression that he is 'going out"

I believe there could be one ore two large strip clubs, filled with the whole gamut of dancers, that could be fun, and a good way to waste an afternoon or evening.

It's hard to beat the combination of a decent stage show, naked women approaching from all directions and a fun time in the VIP....

Perhaps I'm just too old fashioned.

So the kids today don't like naked girls walking around and beer, huh?

Weird bunch.
Not so much weird as much as society today is just different from even 20 years ago.

Some of it is, your average millennial has a mountain of college related debt; for a good number of them too, shitty study choices means shitty minimum wage jobs. Anecdotally, I'm 20 years older than all my cousins (in their 20's) and not a single one of them could scrape together a $100 for some fun at the Downer - best they could do might be $40; all of them are still living at home. By comparison I graduated debt free and despite some turbulence from the dot com bubble popping I did manage to get a good IT role within a year of graduating. My 20's and 30's were a blast of hitting the clubs a few times a month. Many of my buddies did the same too. Today: less jobs, more pieces of paper needed I guess. All of the cousins were talking about going back to get their Masters earlier this summer. More debt too I imagine.

The 'woke' factor. Based on the 20 something crowd of guys at work and how woke they are I'm guessing they would see strip clubs as exploitative and wouldn't go near one even if they had the money. Mind you, they seem to be just fine with camming and fansonly stuff. Maybe that's were their fun money goes.

And, finally somewhere around 2013/2014 the clubs lost the lustre for the college attending gals. Might also explain why you see less younger guys around. I can remember up until around then, PE55, Penthouse, Downer etc... had lots of gals who were students at Brock/NC or who came from out of town even on the weekends outside of the tourist season. Penthouse was well known for this.

Another 10 years I bet Ontario is strip club free.

Besides the cover charge, strip clubs expect you to buy a new drink every hour at inflated prices, and most of the strippers are nowhere near as attractive as they were 20 years ago.

Reading that and Judy Sgro's 'strippergate' comes to mind. All the eastern European hotties who had to leave as a result. Coupled with the Montreal girls the clubs really were wall-to-wall eye candy.

Not sure about the economics of being a dancer now. Back in the days a dancer said she needed to make $80 a night to break-even.
1) $40 "DJ" fee
3) $30 for cab fare
4) $10 for drinks

Video killed the radio star and Terb killed the strip star

I would imagine, waxing, nails, hair, eyelashes, and outfits would add more than a few dollars a shift. Call it $100 bucks a shift?

So that's five dances, to cover costs.

Would you expect a medium busy girl can get 12-20 dances per shift on average? (No extras considered, because apparently in the new Terb format, they don't happen)

Not sure about night shifts but day girls assuming they have their regulars and if you include payment for non-vip interactions (talking, hanging out etc.) then they should be able to average the equivalent dollars. Might be tough going early in the week. I would think there's very few clubs anymore with day crews where there isn't extras going on (PG for example). Even the Downer day girls were starting to do extras before COVID.

Well said. There's something about the thrill of the hunt at a lively strip club that other venues can't capture.
