Did anyone ever see the episode where he's mowing the lawn at his zoo and the crocs are trying to bite out of his lawnmower?

RIP Steve Irwin

It's unfortunate but expected. For all that he loved animals and captured the public's imagination, he did not handle them well.

That he got the stung in the chest implies he was hodling the animal up near his torso, probably to display it. This is a bit like displaying a snapping turtle by holding it at your groin.

He was not exactly gentle with the animals he handles and most of them showed signs of fear, anger and of being "harrassed". Numerous times you could see instances where the animal had had enough and he should of let it go but didn't. I guess he treated everything like a croc.

Sadly he leaves a widow and 2 children.

Every news outlet must have had his obituary prepared, I guess it was only a matter of time with the way he bothered all those animals.

Entertainment for some, but not me.

Did he die from the poison or did he die from having his heart punctured?
I'm not a bullray expert but from what I gather from the article, the tail of one of these beasts is as sharp as a knife (so it doesnt need to be poisonous).
It probably went right through his aorta and when that happens you are toast.

Talk about jumping to conclusions dude.
Thats not at all what happened, read here:

He got stung by a Bullray

The animal is 1 metre in length and weighs 100 Kg (220 lbs)
Ahh.

Mea culpa. None of the articles I had read specified the species, and since most are fairly small ... my mistake. Most of the first articles I read had him scuba diving as well rather than snorkeling.

I noticed this line though:

"I have had that happen to me, and I can visualise it - when a ray goes into defensive, you get out of the way.

"Steve was so close he could not get away,
In otherwords, he was too close. He made a life out of getting too close to dangerous animals and his luck finally run out. Still a shame

He always got too close. That was the fascination with watching him. It is likely that even though he knew it was extremely dangerous, it became somewhat rountine after having gotten away with it so many times. Sad, but more than a bit predictable.
