Unlike Abrams McTreks the third installment is written by Simon Pegg. For that reason I'm prepared to give this a chance.

And let's not forget the trailer didn't show Idris Elba. He wouldn't have signed on if Pegg wrote shit.

I read that J.J. Abrams breathed life into the movie series.

I like the new, young cast. They are almost perfect.

Saw the new film this weekend. Felt it was better than Ghostbusters (I had no choice but it's not that bad for nostalgic sake, with a female touch).

Saw "Beyond" on Friday. It was just okay.

Lots of effects, not much of a storyline. Essentially this coulda been a really good one hour episode (minus commercials) if it was a TV show. J.J. Abrams basically dragged this out with extended scenes and dialogue to make "Beyond" a two-hour movie.

The cast is great, but this third installment in the series is simply riding the coattails of the first two movies. I'm giving it 3 out of 5.

Save your money and wait for "Beyond" to come onto Netflix/On Demand.

I think the special effects are the best ever yet.

I give the visuals a 4 or 5 out of 5 but the storyline 3 out of 5. The action is superb too.

dont think they can stretch the laws of physics and the laws of fiction that far to bring kirk back.

they could try to do the time travel thing, but that would be a loooooong stretch.

on that note: why they decided to kill kirk for a couple extra bucks to make people go see just one movie at the theaters is beyond me.

in my opinion, william shatner is still healthy and fit for acting roles (much like harrison ford is) and yet they dont take the opportunity to put him back on the captains chair is totally beyond me. guess this is the prime and perfect example of the stupidity of hollywood.
Move one, move one. Shatner is too pudgy. I suppose he could be an ambassador or Vice Admiral. Chris Pine is perfect for the role.

They have to try to appeal to a younger generation, but that younger generation might not get it.

I watched the film.

Karl Urban as Bones McCoy is still the strongest character on the show, Idris Elba wasn't given enough to do. Even with all that make-up is body language is unmistakable, the best physical actor since Burt Lancaster. The story veered wildly, I lost track and just went along for the ride. Algerian actress Sofia Biutella stole every scene she was in as Jaylah, I want to see more of her. Unfortunately her next project is The Mummy where she'll be stuck rimming slavemonger Tom Cruise.

Not a bad effort, but the franchise cannot be sustained without the inclusion of The Great Shat in future projects. 7/10

They don't need Shatner IMHO, however, I loved Jaylah. (I thought Chris Pine was going to do an alien, or at least Scottie).

Who was the Ambassador Lady at Star Fleet Command? She looked familiar. Loved her.

Commodore Paris was played by a Persian actress who's name I can't even come close to spelling right. She looks familiar but she has no prior connection to the series.

As for the Ghostbusters remake, they should not have proceeded after Harold Ramis's health started to fail. He was on a creative roll when he wrote the first film, without him Dan Ackroyd wasn't going to get involved with writing the script.

Getting back to Star Trek, what became of Dr. Carol Marcus. I missed her!

“Star Trek Beyond” fell 60% in its second weekend to a $24 million second place spot behind new comer "Bourne".

"Star Trek Beyond" has made a $105.7 million domestic haul so far.

Looks like Cineplex is trying to boost sales for ST-Beyond by offering 500 Bonus Scene points to see ST-Beyond in 3D IMAX.
That's 650 Scene Points in total ( 150 regular + 500 bonus ).

I might take them up on their offer today (Tuesday) for $12.60 instead of regular $19.00 3D IMAX price.

Anyone else received the email and are planning to see it in 3D IMAX ??
