They have no right to block off roads in my opinion, if they don't like whats going on in their home town, they should set of a fund and ask their own people living in canada to help out, not begging canada to help out. I'm not one to be racist but I'm not willing to share my tax money if thats were its going to help out this cause.
My problem here (besides the blatent racism in the thread) is the fact that the Tamils weren't complaining while the civil war was going their way. Now that they are getting their asses handed to them they are screaming that someone stop the "genocide" of the Tamil people.
There have been many Tamils that have worked hard via peaceful and dipliomatic means to try and get a "seperate homeland" or whatever they want. Those people have been vilified by the Tamil media and killed for not supporting the revolution.
I worked with a Tamil guy and his family came here to escape the fighting. The problem is that they are constantly harrassed by Tamil Tiger supporters to "donate" to Tigers. Their businesses are boycotted by the Tamil community, and they are unwelcome at Tamil community events. Obviously not all Tamils support this attitude but they one in control of the Tamil organizations do and active encourage this attitude.
What is happening now to the Tamil Tigers has been a long time coming and is of their own making. They have constantly resorted to violence to achieve their goals and are now reaping the consequences of that.
I'm sorry but I am not sympathetic at all to their cause. It is horrible that innocent people are getting caught up in the fighting but they have no one to blame but the Tamil Tigers.

I can't see this ending well. The cops gotta move them off the highways before the morning rush hour. It's bad enough on a Sunday night with it being Mother's Day.

First off, Toronto has approx. 200,000 Tamil citizens. They aren't "refugees". Some of them may well be better educated than most of the people on this site.LKD said:

I find the protests as aggravating as everyone else. I park daily at Nathan Phillips Square (I work in the area) and I was late for work every friggin' day for the week they were parked on University. I got caught in the melee tonight heading out for Mother's Day dinner. They PISS ME off. However, the racism that's apparent both here on every other website I've visited (G&M, Toronto Star, National Post) is horrific and entirely unwarranted - and, I'm sorry to say, ignorant.
