Every time the Police see one of these beggars standing at the side of the road, they should pick them up, drive them to the end of the Leslie Street Spit and drop them off. Once they've had to walk back half a dozen times they'll get the message!
shouldn't we just put out large traps for them and then release them into the country.
or just hit them with a shovel?
in a properly run country girls like this should be sentenced to some time in a whorehouse
I've only seen a couple of actual squeegee kids in the last little while, but those people with cardboard signs beggging have been a menance for quite a while and I can't believe it's taken until now to start cracking down.
I frequently walk my dog in the area of a major intersection where the 2 guys "working" the corners are buddies. Every once in a while they take a well earned break together to urinate on the back walls of the adjacent buildings and drink beer openly.
I think as well as taking action against the people doing this, there should be fines for those that give them money. That would put a stop to it much faster.

couldn't we hire university kids for death squads? that would solve the squeegee kids and youth unemployment.
OMG.. they are usually harmless.. a dude got struck.. does it say anything about what he did? NO I amsure he got out of his car to go hug the fellow and was all nice and polite.. two wrongs do not make a right..
at least these kids are actually working for whatever pennies they get.. not out robbing and beating people and stealing their money.. that could be a reason they are not high on the cops proirity list... fine them? they dont make anymoney.. take away the right to do this then yeah I bet the crime will go up just a bit.. you do not know how or why they are doing what they are doing.. maybe you could try treating them like humans and talk to them.. there is nothing saying you cant or you should not..

Their mere presence or act of unsolicited cleaning intrudes on peoples' space if not intimidates them.

So, they are harmless, unless you are silly enough to get out of your car. Guess we should all stay home, or in our cars.
These pest seem to go for the ladies, who I would expect are more likely to be intimidated into giving money. Guess that is all ok, because if they are not pestering ladies for money, they will be out robbing people.

I hear what you're saying, but doesn't this just become a form of Danegeld rather than solving the problem?
Since I don't live in TO, is there something really wrong with the strategy of avoiding eye contact, and if they start washing your window anyway, make a show of looking for change and coming up empty, then just going through the intersection when the light's green while saying sorry?
