Some ass-wipe stole my bike...

Went for my daily ride last evening same as always, and parked it in the garage next to all the other bikes upon my return... (my spare, all 3 of my kid's bikes and my wife's...). My kid's were all still out playing, but when they came in, they didn't close the garage door. (It's so hard I know... all you have to do is press the button! TEENAGERS! ARG...)

Anyway, the wife gets home from work at about 11:00 says, hey babe where's your bike? WTF! Mine and my son's bikes were stolen right out of the garage!
god took your bike because you were looking at porn.

Seriously though, report it to the cops along with bike serial#. Many times they find stolen bikes back years later.
Just look at the Igor Kenk case: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2008/09/01/to-igorbikes0901.html
That's the plan LoLRus. Thanks. I have pics, serial #'s and values. It may in fact be the most complete stolen bike report in the history of Waterloo Regional police!

Sorry about your loss. Maybe you'll get lucky like me. I was riding and stopped at Walmart. Someone saw me, followed me, and threw my bike in the back of their truck while I was in Walmart. One year later, got a call from NYS Police. They have my bike. I had registered the serial # when I bought it. There was a drug bust and my bike, and many others, were recovered. Good luck!!
You're in NY. Cops there do their job.

Cops in Toronto aren't that motivated, especially if it's a simple break and enter / robberie. If you're LUCKY they might bother themselves to take a report.

I had my laptop / IPOD / Camera (all in one nice neat carrying bag) stolen out of my car IN MY DRIVEWAY. The cops seemed put out that I was troubling them during their busy day. (They were sitting around in the cop shop talking cop politics.)

Well for starters I live in Cambridge- about 30 mins down the 401 from the big smoke... So I suspect that they will at least show up and go through the formalities... But I doubt there will be any kind of "investigation", nor am I expecting one. I really just need the report for the insurance claim.

Another thing you can do is drive around neighborhoods and look for the bike.

A friend of mine had his motorcycle stolen in Oakville but wound up finding it in Mississauga only 10 km away. My bet is whomever stole it doesnt live too far away, and is probably some kid

It is possible that your bikes might still be recovered. Toronto LE busted a stolen bike ring about a year or so ago and recovered like 3,000 stolen bikes. Good luck to you.

When I was a teenager, two guys stole my motorcycle (parked on the street) late at night. As it happened, Montreal LE was in the area and caught them about a block away. Recovered my bike the same night and had to testify at the thieves' trial some months later.

Not so sure, there are professional stolen bike rings operating in Ontario.

My kids are not allowed in the garage anymore unless they ask and I am around to get what they need. Both front and side doors are locked and they have no key. I do this for just this reason. Too many times they were in there with friends and too many times they left the door open, mostly the side one. Thankfully nothing was ever stolen.

So now they lose before I do.

Really ticks them off to because they have to get me to let them when they want there bikes, Rollerblades, skateboards etc. If I am too busy making dinner, or out shopping, they get stuck with nothing. I have been doing this for a little while now. Maybe I will start testing them soon to see if they have learned their lesson, but it is a way to go as well.

Just a suggestion.....

Oh and I would lock up the bikes while in the garage now as well.

Actually rather an upscale neighbourhood in Cambridge, Ontario... That's what makes this so hard for me to believe.
May I suggest a motion detector light that comes on when anyone enters the garage. My thinking is that it will scare them away and draw attention. You could also put in a video camera - which could have dual uses given the age of your kids...

Having a teenager myself I wouldn't count on getting them to reliably close the door. You don't want to have your NEW bike stolen now that the assholes who took your last bike know you're the kind of guy who spends 1,400 on a bike.

Sorry for your loss.

Never had a tricycle, bicycle, motorcycle (close but no cigar) or car stolen. When I had my bike and motorcycle, I went everywhere and parked everywhere. BTW The motorcycle was great for picking up girls.

Cycle, my first suspect is Player. We know he can't do the skateboard thing, I think he has switched to bycicles.

Thanks tboy... last claim I had on my house insurance was WAY back in 1995 or 96 when my golf clubs were stolen from my garage while I was mowing the back yard! (I swear it was the paperboy!)
CG, first, sorry about your loss....that really sucks. With insurance companies, as we all know, they will use any reason to bump up rates. I've been scammed by my insurance company and they used the excuse that they 're-filed' their policies and procedures so things changed. Hope that doesn't happen to you....and hope you find your bikes.

Sorry to hear CG.....you know my SO has a bike and so does your SO...I bet they could become very good friends, if they rode together!!!

NO really that's a bummer, probably kids that have nothing better to do

Bad story turned good!

Well I just spoke to my insurance company and they will cover the replacement cost of my bikes and accessories in full less the deductible. My insurance company is pretty great! The agent is an old family friend who has known me since I first got my drivers license at the age of 16. I have had the same car insurance and home insurance agent my entire adult life... I think we talked more about my wife and the kids than we did about my bike claim! LOL

So now...

I get to go BIKE SHOPPING! :)
