People should be putting their efforts into pressing the Government for details, timelines, etc. rather than just sitting back and waiting

Have you considered the possibility that "the Government" does not know? And that "sitting back and waiting" is the best idea that the world's medical minds can come up with given the circumstances?

.
There is a legitimate concern about the grab for power and the loss of Democracy. All reputable 'big name' newspapers are writing about this.

Idiots and sheep on both sides are the problem.

So you think that Trump, Trudeau, Bill Gates and the rest of the big cabal have cooked this up in a conspiracy to grab power and lose democracy? You think these same "idiots" are smart enough to organize this conspiracy... and that Trump could keep the secret?

See my sig line...

In my opinion, that's no way to live and forms little basis to exert control and take away personal freedom. The people deserve to determine their own fate. You can only sit back and wait for so long. The people deserve more from their Government.

I didn't say there was a conspiracy... Trump pushed for King-like powers just now. Trudeau tried to sneak through additional powers through the new emergency legislation. I didn't make it up, it was reported by journalists in all papers. We all should be concerned... History is filled with examples that we should've learned from.

This request does not make sense. The basis of my comment is to seek more information and details; to reduce everyone's ignorance. You've both accepted and went off on a tangent in your examples.

To me what's shocking is the incompetence of our health care system.
We could start to slowly reopen the economy if everyone wears a fucking MASK.
Look at Taiwan and South Korea. They have less cases BECAUSE EVERYONE IS WEARING A FUCKING MASK.

Except despite your Randian world view, we live in a society and when it comes to an easily spread virus, we rely on the rest of our society. And it's a paradox to say people should have freedom while demanding the government does more.

I'm still waiting for an explanation of how Trudeau has destroyed our democratic structure.

It's a hell of a lot more than wearing a mask. Mandatory testing and quarantine, in depth screening/testing at airports, a culture of listening to the government, a social habit that has accepted masks as normal for decades, and huge infrastructure spending put in place years ago just in case. Both were very successful because they made it extremely challenging for the virus to enter in the first place, not because they wear masks.

It is also worth noting that infected surfaces is believed to be the main source of transmission, not airborne droplets.

It's very rare and temporary, but emergency measures are sometimes the right thing to do.
We have to make sure that the restrictions remain temporary by having them come to an end. Every decision should be voted on and we should not be comfortable with a small group making and enforcing those decisions.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

I don't believe these two highlighted statements have been definitively proven to the degree you have based your argument.

Shouldn't that be "half the population is below median intelligence"?

But yeah I get the point. There are still too many idiots on this planet.
I like it phrased this way:

The average person is not very bright. That means that half the population is dumber than that.

You missed his point which is the literal spin on the saying (i.e. the difference between an Average and Mean).

First thing I suggest you do to further your education is the read the good book. The Bible. Everything is in it.

EVERY state has emergency powers which over ride normal legislation and are subject to constitutional exceptions, Phil. It's a simple legal necessity.

This is just unfamiliar to you because it has never happened before in our lifetimes.
Do they apply to a pandemic like the one we're experiencing? Link please.
