Preditor Drones!!

Take a page out of the british war book. When they went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands they announced they had submarines in the area, the entire Argentina fleet ran for port.
Except send some just off the coast. Any boat approaches a merchant ship without reason, sink it.
I'd like to send some of those Predator Drones after them!! Let them get out to sea and watch them (on video) shit their pants and run like crazy. Then blast them out of the ocean. It could be a new reality show, "Last Pirate Standing!!"

That country is one fucked up place. I saw on CP24 news this morning that a Samali court wouldn't annul the marrage of an 8 year old girl to a 47 year old man. These people are fucking sick to allow that kind of thing to happen. The judge who wouldn't annul the marrage should be taken out then shot, pissed on, tar and feathered but not necessarily in that order.
That was in Saudi Arabia, not Somalia.

Horseshit, it was a fucked up continent long before the Europeans came along and don't go for the "years of slavery decimated the cultural ties" because African's were the ones selling the slaves to the Europeans.

I say let the Somali pirates try to pick on the US, they will soon all be dead and the high seas commerce can resume as normal.

As for the rest of the mess, people can only be empowered if they want to be.

Cold I know, but I don't want my tax dollars wasted in a black hole that will still be a stinking mess 50 yrs from now.
Exactly the kind of deep thinking that led to the ruination of several continents and their indigenous peoples. Your grasp of socio-economic realities and power dynamics is truly astounding.

... that the wannabe neo-cons (meaning those who, if faced with the reality of their tough-guy approach, would shrink like their tiny peckers) on this site don't let the truth get in the way of their good stories...

The pirates are clearly coming to the end of their reign of terror. Once the US and the other major powers intevene, it will be tits-up.

The pirates' home bases will be wrecked and the warlords will be paid $$$ to make sure the pirates don't set them up again.

Ah the Clinton plan revisited.

I believe more in the words: Millions in defense, not a penny in tribute. But hey that is just me.

They just said on the news how it might have been low on the list of priorities BEFORE, but now it just went to the front on the line.

No doubt the CIA will choose its "pet client" warlords and give them arms and money and back them in their vicious, petty squabbles with the unco-operative "rogue" warlords. Distasteful, but that's business as usual. And really there's nothing else you can do.

A coward's bravado. A couple tactical nukes should tell them to shut the f**k up and learn to be civilized. I have no patience for the criminal mentality any more.

I guess you don't see the irony in your post. A nuclear device is the ultimate coward's weapon.

Tell me, does your definition of criminal extend to former Presidents of the United States for waging an illegal and immoral war against a sovereign country? What about criminals in your own backyard? Do you drop a nuke there, your life and those of the innocents bedamned?

Ahhh ... how short memories are.

For all of you crying for action in Somalia, remember the movie Black Hawk Down? And the story behind it?

Will the West have the stomach for it this time?

You can thank the European colonists for that. Going in to uncharted land, raping and pillaging the continent by enslaving the people, tearing apart entire regional cultures, alliances and trading partners and then abandoning it afterward - only to continue to do so from afar (along with other emerging powers like Russia, China, the US, etc.) by using things like propped-up dictators, multinational corporations, the World Bank and the IMF to do their bidding.
Then why is it that areas of Africa with far longer histories of European commercial exploitation or colonization have vastly healthier political and economic situations? Both the British and the Italians arrived in Somaliland only in the 1880's - quite late in the game
