"The hard part about doing propaganda is that the past changes so quickly you have no idea what will happen yesterday.:
This remark is NOT directed at any one person but at the global SOLAR industry.

I've done the math on several applications. As far back as the Ontario gov't boondoggle of rooftop FIT solar paying $0.78 kw/h to recent builds. In the best case scenario, you are pre-paying for your electricity for the next 15 years. About the same lifespan of current solar panels. And that does not include even minor repairs or replacement of charge controllers, bad panels, etc.

Until there is a quantum leap in materials science (or return to the gov't paying $0.78 kw/h, personal solar does not make economic sense except in off-grid applications.

Yes, solar is very important and 'we' , as a society, have to continue to invest in deploying solar so that the technology can continue to develop. But buying, installing, maintaining and depreciating personal solar systems is currently a bad financial investment.

About 5 years ago I bought a condo with a very large balcony. I called up a local solar panel dealer to ask him if I could power my entire condo by hanging solar panels all over my balcony. He said the current technology isnt advanced enough to power a condo. I then asked him how close is science to being able to power a condo with solar energy?? He said we're not even close

A friend had solar panels installed on his house back when the deal was 0.78/kw.
He had to get an engineer in to inspect his roof rafters before they could be installed.
Not sure if that was in the contract with the city utility or the solar panel installer.
Before he signed anything he got a business number so he could put all expenses and payouts under the corporation number.
This included a small tax deduction for an office in his house and other income tax benefits.

If you want to 're-sell' power to the grid ask yourself if you really want 'Big Utility' in your life more than already..
Whether you are shelling $ out or getting some back makes a big difference in your perspective...
