...................whom Ford had a chance that no one would have argued with, including the unions, if he only would have accepted the 1180 overpaid and underworked city employees who applied for the early retirement package. What a dunce.
It wasn't Ford personally who didn't accept the applicatins. Blame the asshole managers who were to select the applications but wanted to protect their fiefdoms for that mess. It was in the newspapers a short while ago, describing the politics within the worker unions.

Don't those managers work for Ford? Doesn't the buck stop at his desk? If his management isn't doing what he tells them to do, isn't that ultimately Ford's fault?

So why aren't these operational inefficiencies beint rectified?
Decades of lefty mayors have given the unions ironclad sweetheart contracts that can't be re-negotiated. Mayor Ford inherited these ridiculous contracts. Ever heard of "job for life"? How about "bankable sick days"?

Don't be silly. We are talking about PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS. These managers work for the unions. In my private sector company, our boss is the boss and he can fire and hire at will, subject to human rights considerations.

I haven't seen ANY indication that Ford is interesting in renegotiating a fairer deal. I think that's coming up soon--we'll see. I bet Ford gives the unions the same sweetheart deal that every past mayor did. "Jobs for Life", you may recall, was a Lastman era thing.

Where's the gravy? There's gravy in every government service that I've been privy to. I have no dealings with the TTC, so I can't comment there. And I can't disclose information on other fronts. The problem is that much of the "gravy" is hard to quantify. Did they really have to pay so much for that? Could they have requested quotes from more sources? Did they actually go with the lowest quote? I know first hand of a continued case of what I'd consider to be corruption that deals with atleast hundreds of thousands of dollars of waste. My hands are tied however, and I highly doubt reporting it would result in anything positive.

I totally agree! It's not surprising the TTC has to cut services when you have (for example) ticket collectors making 80-100K a year with overtime. The wages and benefits are so out of touch with reality. Where is the money supposed to come from. The Province won't pony up, so you either have to increase fares, raise taxes which nobody wants or cut services.
Rob is doing all three, in spite of explicitly promising to do none of the above because he could fund everything with gravy.

Either a liar or a simpleton, but nothing says he can't be both.

That's BS, Ford knew exactly what was involved. Ford knew that certain departments didn't qualify so why did he allow it to be offered to them? Ford knows full well there are numerous asshole managers in the city who want to protect their fiefdom and it's his job to weed them out. He's done nothing to rid the city of these useless managers. It's no different when a new CEO comes into a new company, it's his/her job to get a handle on his team and weed out the useless managers.

Forget the waste in the union staff, the management waste is sickening, if you only knew how many managers make around $100k and when the whistle blows at 4:30, they drop everything and run home, and the benefits for life that they get???? Well, that's a different story.

Don't try to defend him, I know too much about that moron now.

It's not about Rob Ford being mayor I couldn't give a damn if he was mayor or not. It doesn't matter who you put up there when the council's a freakin mess anyway.

It's the PUBLIC workers and their UNIONs... getting away with too much. Just get rid of them all... managers... garbage collectors... who cares... get rid of them all. Some garbage collectors make 21/hr + bonuses? Give me a f*ckn break!
If the PRIVATE sector is OUTSOURCING their staff to save money, why can't the government do it? We're talking about TAX money here, this is THE PEOPLE's money not some CORPORATION's money... so why should these government workers make so much more than PRIVATE workers +job security? When people who work in the private sector are out there everyday fighting for their jobs. It's just gone on for too long... I really dont know if Rob and his cronies are really doing anything about it... so far it's just been talking.. and too much of it.
