When he was a Councillor, wasn't Rob one of the leaders of the Make the TTC an Essential Service crowd? So if it's an essential service, how does he and his minions get to cut it?

Last I checked there were no bikelanes on the major arterial roads, or on the DVP.
That's obvious. I guess my sarcasm isn't. Rob Ford has no plans to deal with the transportation mess in this city and his actions will only aggravate it.

The gravy is in overstaffing, overpaid employees, high absenteeism, rich benefits, rich pension, 6 weeks vacation, etc. We take care of CUPE Local 79 very well. In short, grossly overpaid, grossly underworked and grossly inefficient employees.
I totally agree! It's not surprising the TTC has to cut services when you have (for example) ticket collectors making 80-100K a year with overtime. The wages and benefits are so out of touch with reality. Where is the money supposed to come from. The Province won't pony up, so you either have to increase fares, raise taxes which nobody wants or cut services.

After years of lefty mayors the City of Toronto workforce is based on the "Greek Model". Our company dehired n employee because she comes in late, leaves early, constantly on the phone with her family and friends, etc. Heard she found a comfortable job at the City of Toronto.

It looks like we need a special TERB emoticon, to be used when sarcasm tact is invoked
A special one only to be used by fuji, we know how to use emoticons when sarcasm is implied.

That full 2.5% is going straight in to the pockets of overpaid and underworked City "workers".
...................whom Ford had a chance that no one would have argued with, including the unions, if he only would have accepted the 1180 overpaid and underworked city employees who applied for the early retirement package. What a dunce.

Millions have gone to consultants. Millions more will go into the pockets of the owners of the contracting firm that will (mis)handle garbage pickup. Millions more will be wasted on other consultants and other outsourcing firms. And the biggest waste of all: Rob Ford's salary

City managers have been trying to convince people who were thinking about taking the early retirement package to pass on it and work until they retire. Why? Because if people take the ERP then that job is gone and they aren't required to fill the position. If someone retires, they can replace the position. The managers are worried about their own jobs because if they don't have employees to manage, they'll eventually be out of a job.

Millions more will go into the pockets of the owners of the contracting firm that will (mis)handle garbage pickup.
What's wrong if a private company employes people and makes money for providing a service to the city for less money thereby saving taxpayers money? Unions are free to bid on the contract but they'll have to do it efficiently. And where's your proof that privatized garbage is being mishandled in other jurisdictions?

There is plenty of gravy in the TTC. Bus drivers earn ~50% more than private sector workers in York Region. There are *ticket takers* making six figure salaries.

It mystifies me that the KPMG audit didn't include the TTC.. there is plenty of room for operational efficiencies without sacrificing service. Did you know, for instance, the new subway trains require only one TTC worker, but they're still being staffed by two?

So why aren't these operational inefficiencies beint rectified? Rob Ford appears to believe it is the taxpayer who is overpaid.

Plus benifits.

Has a study ever been done to determine if the city can pay the pensions and benefits for retiring city workers? I don’t know, but would think that is the big up coming problem.

In the laboratory.
The easiest way to cut gravy at the TTC is when a Driver stops driving and decides to take a job as a ticket seller, their salary should be reduced to reflect that new position.

Would also help to inform them that the city of Toronto will no longer pay the Ohip premiums Mcguinty effectively dumped on Toronto. ( it's not a tax its a premium nonsense )

Should probably contract out cleaning services for the bathrooms as well, it is pathetic how little TTC staff take care of them.
I believe ticket seller positions are given to employees who have been injured on the job. Reduce the pay and the TTC would probably end up paying more in increased workers' compensation premiums.

The neocons are being revealed for the frauds that they are. They have no interest in cutting taxes. They just want to divert tax dollars from government workers to the pockets of themselves and their friends. The 407 is a perfect example of this. Rob Ford seeks to continue the tradition. Their tact is to demonize government workers and say that privatization is the only solution. This will result in lower taxes (LMAO) and then divert tax dollars to private companies (407).

Demonize government workers? Okay Syd Ryan...

So many government workers are paid way over and above comparable jobs in the private sector and where does the money come from to pay their wages and benefits? Yes, taxpayers. I'm sick of my taxes continually going up to support overpaid union employees. If it costs the city less for something like garbage pickup, I'm all for it.

Here's how the private sector works when it is on the government teat. They pay their workers less. Then they advertise that fact saying they are more "efficient". But the cost per worker is higher to the tax payer because they are raking the extra cash in profits. Remember, when your good friend Mike Harris had the private sector build the computer system that is used for welfare cases. We were paying $100+ an hour for data entry clerks. The clerks weren't getting the money. But we were being hosed. The private sector regards government contracts as an opportunity to rape the taxpayer (the 407 another gift to the private sector). Yes, the new garbage workers will be paid peanuts, but don't take that to mean that they are less expensive to you the taxpayer. They will cost you more. The extra money is going to owners of the firm.
