And he did. With a what I would describe as a meandering explanation of his role and feelings in last weeks feature.

He's still sticking to his story that it all just got by him without him realising what was actually said. And of course they ''were in a foxhole together'' for years but because he doesn't agree with what Cherry said they have to go different directions. He loves him and respects him though,lol......So I guess it's all good.

How about mentioning all the championing Cherry did for minor hockey both the girls and boys, the armed forces, Police and fire services, disabled persons and veterans. Not to mention the hours of his time he donated to charities and his own financial donations as well. Guess That must have slipped Ronny's mind. Still has a job though. I guess that's the main thing.

You could have predicted every sentence, word and emotional note of that speech.

What's McLean supposed to do? Give up his job for a guy that he may or may not have liked that much?

Well Cherry did go to bat for him twice when his tenure was about to come to an end. Didn't hear him mention that either, lol.

I agree with this with one exception. This entire issue isn't about what wonderful things Don Cherry had done or about our brave soldiers. it's about a well known hockey commentator getting fired for making a stupid statement.

Correct me, if I'm wrong. Ron was due to be fired because he was tedious and the Network wanted a facelift. Don could simply have not wanted to put in the time learning to work with a new guy with a different style.

If Ron had been fired for misconduct - i.e. dropping his pants to a 5 year old girl or wiping his ass with the Canadian flag - you think Donny'd have done the same thing then?

IDK, Darts. Maybe you should time travel back to 1943 and crouch in a foxhole in sub zero weather in some pile of rubble in Ortona with the Germans shelling you and guys dying all around you. And then you could ask the guys first hand how much they could give a shit about some sports broadcaster being fired in 2019 for running his mouth about newcomers not wearing poppies.

I'm guessing it wouldn't have been high on their list of concerns.

Our brave soldiers certainly didn't fight to liberate and defend the rights of racists and demagogues. Actually, just the opposite. They fought to defend the rights and, in some cases, survival of minorities of all sorts.

I hate this of disingenuous use of "our brave soldiers" as a verbal means to lend a weak argument more weight while at the same time bathing the speaker in the light of their reflected glory. Cherry did this all the time.

I stopped watching NHL hockey ages ago. Cherry was only a small irritant that you could mute him. The NHL is so corporatized and the salaries are just ridiculous. Why bother? It is for corporate ticket holders or the rich. I attend OHL games all the time. Good hockey, cheap for season tickets and you don't have to listen to the blathering egos of the players or commentators like Cherry.

Agreed, and many in the hockey world are not sad that he is gone.

Wow. Cherry disingenuous in regards to our veterans. That's a good one.

Yeah, the NHL sucks now that they have gotten rid of almost all of the fighting and added more speed and skill to the game.

I've got news for you: it's not MacLean's job to police Cherry or to make on-the-spot apologies for what he says.

Agreed - and it was not 'one' stupid statement, but a pattern of the same over a period of years.

Actually you're wrong they fought for the rights of all freedom loving people. Even the ones who society deems as extremist in their thought/behavior.

Warning - beware of left wing fascism.

Whatever became of "I disagree with what you think/say but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

Now, the left wing fascists are saying we disagree with what you say and we will get you fired from your job and destroy your career and life.

You are off the mark here. Follow the money as the corporate sponsors do. The media outlets are beholden to and undewritten by the sponsers who deemed that Don Cherry's utterances where bad for business.

I believe that Ron decided to follow his conscience, to do what he felt was the right thing, and it had little to do with his job or the money. And it tore his guts out because it meant he was unable to support a long time coworker and friend. I believe his monologue last night was genuine and heartfelt. And I realize that not everyone will see it the way I do.

They fought and died to defeat a dictator whose view of immigrants was rather similar to Don’s.
