I only watched a few parts of BT this morning. I didn't even know about the firings until I looked at this thread this afternoon. One part I noticed was for the intro at 7am they only showed a kid eating cereal instead of any on-air personalities. For a second I thought that was odd. And then the news started and it seemed normal.

Ken, Dina and Mel all had a teary goodbye.

Now it's pure business. Ratings, costs, outdated tv format.

But, they can't play the "one big happy family" card. And that is why people watched.

Frankie is safe as it would be a boatload of cash to send him off.

Good! I hate Sid. The way he kept defending the Liberal party and Turdeau made me stop watching BT. I wouldn‘t be surprised if he had posters of JT in his bedroom that he jacks off to.

Sid is a self-aggrandizing, loud mouthed blowhard. I'm surprised that a)he got the gig in the 1st place and b)that he lasted that long.

I hope that they don't pair him back up with Tim.

I'm not based in Toronto so I don't really get much exposure to Sid on TV but I recall him and his partner Tim going off on a rant after Italy didn't qualify for the World Cup. He is a blowhard and he seems to channel every 'Italian' I meet during the World Cup/Euros who is an instant expert on the game and the players yet rarely ever watches the game otherwise or plays the game and they claim to be Italian but have either never been or their grandparents are from there and they've been once but claim to be 'Italian'. Rant over.

I don't think the media world will be in a serious funk due to the loss of Sid. Mainstream media is on a downwards slope and there is going to be more of these layoffs.

Melanie Ng is on this morning as a host, probably just filler until they have new permanent hosts.

Same here.
I'm really curious what they did to get fired though.
Something major must have happened
Most likely reason is they wanted to cut costs. Television is expensive, and it isn't like it was even 10 years ago when nearly everyone had cable. Today, the audience is even more fragmented than ever, and they probably fired the pair to put in slightly cheaper talent. This is Rogers making the cuts, not BCE, but BCE is notorious for firing a large chunk of their behind the camera teams as well as big name talent every year....and they've been doing in since the early 2000's....

So, while you may have loved or haded Sid/Meredith, they were not fired for cause. Hell, it likely wasn't even the ratings....
