Should terrorists and murderers be put in jail?

This is a thread for Aardvark, he seems to think we don't spend enough time debating this point.

My view is that terrorists and murderers should be apprehended, given their day in court, and then on conviction left to rot in jail for the rest of their natural lives.

Does anybody disagree?

Not expecting anyone to, really no idea who would disagree, but somehow Aardy thinks this should be a hot topic.
As a former member of the USMC, I think if the ememy (insirgents/terrorists) should be caught and held until the conflict is over then let go. If they break un law then they should be tried at the Hage for war crimes and sentenced to what ever that court decides. They should not be tried in civilian court as they have acted out of war not the criminal code in the country that they were captured in. I can only ask that we treat these people the same way I would have wanted to be treated if I was captured by them (even though I know that would never be the case, treated that is). We can not let ourselfs ride the same moral train as they do and must ride above this at all costs. And for the guys that say KILL them all, stop stop stop, you have no idea what you are talking about sitting at home in a safe counrty. Killing people just gets more people killed and should only be used when all else fails. Okay now you can rip me a new one, SEMPER FI!

Well said and Colin Powell pretty much agreed and said the same!
This is how civilized people act.
The fact Team 'w' didn't care much for civilized Law was the main reason Colin Powell referred to them as the Fucking Crazies! A title they richly earned....;)

Don't worry about it. I have yet to meet a Marine that does not drink.

(if I were in a hostile situation I would want the US Marines to be the first through the door getting me out)

LOL!
Now don't get started on what takes place within inter-service rivalry.
Remember the stock statement/question in the Army for years has always been,
'Have you ever met a smart Marine'?.....:D

Just because I can't let this go..............When one joins a branch of the service they have to take a federal IQ test, the USMC has the highest requirement for acceptance based on this test and the army has the lowest. If you have a heart beat you can get into the army in the US and even more so now. An army major told me the following once "The army sends their best to Ranger School while the Marines sends their best to boot camp.

I disagree, there is, to me, quite a broad spectrum of "murder". Some murders can be rehabilitated and have mitigating circumstances surrounding their crime. For example, someone killed a drug dealer that raped and murdered their sister. Premeditated murder.. I would say give him a governor generals award. I like to give judges "guidelines" but not mandatory sentences. There is the availability of the "dangerous offender act" which can indefinitely imprison real scum like Clifford Olsen. The ONLY change I would make to the law is to provide dangerous offenders with a suicide pill if they want to do society a favour with a last honourable act.
