I heard in Ontario its already legal. I remember reading someone tried to open one, but it was near a playground and a bunch of people protested it to shut down.
If you know guys are paying for sex and going in and out of a building, all of a sudden they are creepy criminals who shouldn't be around kids. However, if you talk to those same guys, they usually have kids, and are your coworkers and relatives.
I guess perception is everything.
So, in conclusion brothels are already legal, and if you go there you are a sick pervert and your sexual desires are a blight on society.
SHAME ON YOU
SICKO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not sure about this. I think brothers are not illegal, which is a big difference from being legal. I believe Toronto licenses massage parlours, but that doesn't make them legal for sexual services. I also think that Barrie licences escort agencies, but that doesn't give them free reign to open brothels just that they can send out ladies to private homes, hotels, etc.
The legal grey zone that sex workers are in doesn't help the situation at all. The big problem here is that sex workers from both sides have valid points. If you worked as a sex worker and faced abuse (from pimps, clients) or were introduced to drugs, etc. then it's understandable that you'd want a complete ban on brothels and the whole industry. The ladies that did not have to face that abuse and are in control over how they conduct themselves are likely going to favour legalization or decriminalization. Then you have all sorts of ladies somewhere in the middle. The end result is that no matter what the courts decide, one of the sides is going to be upset and the industry will either be out in the open with licensed brothels or underground and unseen.
I think it's the same with any industry and any company. Some have a negative experience and what the industry or company shut down and others have the opposite experience.
Plan B has a great point too in that client safety and rights would have to be considered if the courts to decide to legalize. Clients should have the right to be reasonably secure at a brothel just like any other business establishment.
