I was watching shark week last night. They were searching for a prehistoric shark called Megalodon.

Apparently a pleasure craft off the coast of South Africa was taken down and all the people on board(about 5-6) were never seen again. They were taping themseleves fishing when the boat was hit by some huge animal.Pretty scary stuff.

The video at the end of the show when the researchers were chumming the water was kinda freaky stuff.

So....if you seen the show,do you think this prehistoric shark still exsists?

My answer.....not sure, but makes me think he just might.

I think it was hype for TV. It reminded me of listening to the faithful on Coast to Coast AM earnestly discussing reptilean aliens in our midst.

I have no idea if such a think exists. But I loved the commercial for Shark Week where the baby seal is being lowered back into the water and the shark jumps up and eats it. My kids were almost in tears thinking that was a real newscast. Of course, I got in trouble with the wife because I kept rewinding it an laughing lol.

The Megalodon needed to constantly feed to maintain its body temperature. It thrived during a long but moderate Ice Age, but when the ice receded and the ocean currents kicked in, it became too big for its environment. The whales it fed on moved to colder waters where the Megalodon could not follow, it went extinct.

This is its closest living relative.

The Megalodon lost out to its smaller, more agile and adaptable cousin The Great White.

Shark fin soup should be banned, Great White's have enough to worry about. It has to compete for food with a species that has it on its menu, the Orca. But the Orca isn't the apex predator of the oceans, this is - hence the name.

Unlikely, but then again many strange things have proved true. However, I'll believe it when I see the video.

The Great White is a magnificent predator, but it's no match for an animal with a brain.
