Anna Netrebko is a gorgeous woman no doubt but Salome is a whole other level from Puccini. And to do it in Salzburg sets your fame/or infamy in stone.
The death scene has always been blacked out, not something a firebrand director like Romeo Castelucci would do. In the Biblical story, Salome appears to be having sex with the head of The Baptist. King Herod, horrified by her insanity orders her crushed to death.
