I had a chance to go through the Bond 50th anniversary collection recently. 'Best' is relative, though I was not a fan of Dalton or Lazenby's characterization of Bond. Connery was the original so there will be argument for him for sure. Moore brought more humour to the character though lack the ruggedness that Connery has. I feel Brosnan shared many of Moore's traits and is a very 'balance blend' of both Connery and Moore. I actually like Craig as he has a darker edge to him - a bit more like the Connery days. Not sure if I buy the whole charm or womanizing way but Craig delivers the action and violence better than all. He is one that I would truthfully be scared of.

Liked him better as The Saint. During Moore's tenure, the Bond character became a caricature ... too flippant, too many puns, a little too unbelievable ... as were the villains. Brosnan had a similar touch, although more suave and dashing. I liked Brosnan in the role, also liked Dalton, for the brooding dark side of the character he brought out.

But Craig is the only Bond to rival Connery, in my opinion. The torch is passed. The franchise is strong.

I think the consensus will say Sean Connery but I really like Daniel Craig who I think is second to Sean Connery if not as good.

I would agree with this. Connery was the prototype. Moore was a buffoon. Dalton was not memorable at all. Brosnan was an improved version of Moore, but still a caricature. Craig in many ways reminds me of Connery, but he can act too! I didn't mind Lazenby, but perhaps that's because of the storyline for OHMSS and Diana Rigg.

of all the things said about daniel craig i think i am going to have to check him out now. i seriously lost interest in the franchise with the dalton/brosnan era but with the positive i have been hearing hear and my other forum and facebook i may be forced to go check it out.

Actually... I blame Lazenby for totally ruining that film. It was by far the best book and story line Fleming came up with. Savalas and Rigg were well cast as was Ferzetti, but Lazenby sucked ass huge.

Bond was defined to me in the first shot of him in the first film (Dr. No), sitting at a baccarat table in a tux after winning a hand and answering the question from the sexy woman ..'Bond ...... James Bond'

I have high def collection of Bond movies but only Connery, Brosnan and Craig.

Well said! I pretty much agree with everything you said.

I give the edge to Moore though. He was my favorite. I do enjoy Craig's style though too.
