An admission of racial conspiracy theories. Why doesn't that surprise me.

Whether or not the author meant the Williams cartoon as racist, he sure fell into stereotypical racist stereotypes.
In real life, George Constanza would say: "It's not a conspiracy, if it's true."

So how should an irate African-American woman throwing a temper tantrum be drawn?

And yes, that pic is very close to the cartoon.

No matter how you would've drawn her it will still be criticized, because its about politics. The artist has no history of racism. They're backing Serena because of the Nike thing, take a knee, BLM and so on.

I can't see where Serena was standing up for any cause other than Serena wants to win. I will give her credit for coming up with this bullshit women's rights argument on the spot in the heat of the moment. But she was willing to say anything to try to get her way. She started off by saying that she has a daughter and would never cheat. She'd rather lose than cheat. And then her coach admitted that they were cheating.

I am amazed at how many people bought her championing women's rights and minorities argument. I think many people just love cheering for a winner and found these fictitious social justice issues a convenient way to back her in spite of her petulant attitude. And many Americans support her for no other reason than she is American.

The cartoon is right on, not the first time she has temper tantrum.

Martina Navratilova criticizes Serena Williams' behavior at US Open final

Billie Jean backed her though. So did a host of former players...men and women. They all agree that the men have done far worse than Serena and don't get punished the same way.

Serena should have controlled herself and behaved better than that, but that cartoon was racist in the Jim Crow vein. End of story.

Her coach also said everyone does what he did while admitting that. The selective meted out punishment was highlighted, as you can see from Andy Roddick and many other men. Let's not also pretend that Serena and her sister weren't targets to begin with. WHen they were not winning at the start most didn't pay them much attention. They were treated like novelty acts. Once they started dominating, the hate piled on because they were not supposed to dominate that sport. Added to that, they strutted around with confidence while beating the others. They weren't meek.

I remember when the American crowds would cheer for the foreigners and against BOTH Williams sisters. Even for Caprtiati, the criminal, when playing against them.

And most agree that to call that cheating is laughable. Sharapova now...that would be more akin to cheating.

Anyway, I blame Serena for lacking situational awareness after all these years. She should have known she will be held to a different standard than a Sharapova or Hingis, but she seeminly failed to learn from past 'mistakes'.

Serena has been dominating continuously for 20something majors but she seems to be adored. I don't see the hate. If she is hated by some it is because she does not seem like a nice person al all. "If you call another foot fault, I am going to shove this ball down your throat." Definitely not meek, indeed.

Martina Hingis was smug and Capriati was a criminal. I shudder to think the reception Serena would have got if she actually DID dirt like Capriati did. Serena had outbursts. That paled in comparison to Capriati was courted like a queen on her way to a mere 3 Grand Slams.

Serena endured the nastiest of all attacks any female player has ever received upon entry, and perhaps that hlped her develop that hardcore, IDGAF nature...for better or worse. She wasn't any more manly than 'flat all over' Mauresmo, but you know...she got the darts...and came back each time to overcome the nastiness. Perhaps that is why she is adored NOW. You must not have been watching tennis from 1999 to 2015 when Americans cheered on ALL her foreign opponents. You probably also know nothing about how she and her sister were treated by Hingis and the mean girl crew in the late 90s.

Like I said, she should have handled things better and with more calm instead of giving them more ammo even though they were out to demonise her at every juncture. Terry Crews, as one example, avoided being the stereotype. Serena needs to see a sports psycologist. Keep her head down. Keep quiet. Get fitter, win a couple more titles if she can and then depart ignoring people like that snake Carillo.

She clearly has anger issues, but so do MANY other tennis players. She is NOT unique in this regard. She should, however, know better by now that those like her will have hers scrutinised earlier and more fiercly than others. There is less latitude afforded to them. Too many blacks remain oblivious to this fact of life and get themselves in bind as a result.

Nothing wrong with that cartoon. It is not intended to be an exact rendition. That is what editorial cartoonists do and this onecaptures her childish breakdown and her exhibition of poor sportsmanship quite well. In doing so artists exaggerate features like Mulroney's chin or Chretien's mouth or Trump's hair

All I can say is that she got what she deserved in that match.

Instead of saying I can be a total A-hole because others have done worse, (which leads to continually lowering the bar) proper conduct should be enforced on all, as it was done here. If they do this for all players from now on, then instead of her bullshit championing women's rights story, she can be the one who championed on court decorum and helped raise the bar.
