Just passing on some experience, I hope it may help others.

When i surf looking for an SP, I sort by location (mine), then by what the SP looks like, and right-click "Open Link In New Tab" for each one I want to review. When I have collected 10 or 12 in new tabs then I go through looking for - and discarding - those which only provide messages for contact (no phone number, voice or text). They NEVER respond, and you could have just handed out your email address to the criminal elements. Yes, seriously. I use a gmail address for this stuff and the SPAM and garbage pours in all day and all night.

If you do get an titillating email, look at the people it was sent to. If there are two or more addressees - including you - then its SPAM and not even worth the time you will put into deleting it.

Then I go through looking for - and discarding - those which have out-of-Province telephone area codes. Just open a new tab (leave it open) and type in (for example) "area code 416", the search engine will tell you where the number you are calling/texting is located. You might be surprised how many of them are long distance calls you are expected to make for a local appointment, some as far away as California, and I have even seen one or two for Europe. Is this the new long distance sexual revolution? Massachusetts? Delete. Ohio? Delete. Florida? Delete. Delete. Delete. Delete.

Besides, the way things are now I also delete all Americans... they decided to put the Orange Pustulence there, let then go back home and enjoy their choice, not come north and take ANY business away from Canadians. So far as I know, SPs are not part of the Free Trade Agreement, and they do NOT belong here.

Price comes next, and (being on a budget) for the life of me I cannot understand what equipment a SP would own to be asking any more than $250 an hour... some guys much be genuine suckers to be paying that much for anything. I have seen prices as high as $700 an hour. The Gods must be crazy.

When I have selected my final choices (I always have three or four), I send out text messages clearly detailing what I want. No reply in an hour, I delete them from my phone and Favourites, but if I am really stimulated by the photo/s of one of them I will call first. But usually it is a text-only line - and they get deleted too.

Favourites: Yes I started a page for those. You can classify them by looks, by age, by price, by anything you want, simply add to oe modify the Bookmark description that drops down when you click on the icon to add it to the list. If someone else uses your computer (and it is not password protected), I suggest you use some personal codes you understand to do your classifications.

Whatever you decide, do NOT NOT NOT respond to or cooperate with someone - anyone, whether male or female - asking you to go through a "security certification" - "so that they will know they are safe". EVERY SINGLE ONE is fake and, to confirm that, recognise that making you sign up for six porn sites in a row does NOT make you a safe person, it just sucks on your wallet. The "security certificate" or "safe pass" - or whatever else you want to call it - DOES NOT EXIST. When the=at stuff comes to mt discrete gmail account, I mark it as SPAM (upper menu bar, black stop-sign-looking icon) and all future such emails go to the SPAM folder. I believe it also alerts Google that these emails are SPAM for the benefit of other users.

And exactly how much do you spend for a 30 min, 45 min or 1 hour appt. I am on a budget as well and I find that spending $250/hr or $200 to $220 for 45 minutes provides me with a huge number of quality women to choose from. I can almost bet that the quality of women you have seen is not as good as most here who use agencies and that many who use reputable agencies have less failures as long as they read what others say here

As an older guy I am a slow starter, so I prefer to use the full hour - I like the GFE and I don't like to watch the clock or be rushed, anyway.

I started with my first SP - this year - at $250, and have found one or two who are willing to provide just as much enthusiasm, cleanliness and service as the higher priced SPs for $100 (or even less), hence my constant searching - I am looking at everything they offer, including ages and being reasonable on cost. I have been from dirty back streets of Toronto with grubby surroundings and a bare mattress with oversized girls to beautiful talented women in luxurious condos, no more of them at the first $250 rate.

So, agencies or not, within the independents I am finding two or three independent SPs who I will frequent in the future as I can afford, and that gives me the chance to have about double the encounters than you pay for. But I am saying it has been a LONG journey to get here to today, and the vast majority of that time has been trying to contact the ditzes, just-don't-cares and apparent absentees from the area.

Certainly the sites - north American and European - don't seem to be policing their databases for long expired advertisers. And that actually costs them, because a SP only has to list once and their ad could stay live for YEARS, free after the initial payment and expiry. The SPs now put their phone number in their subject line and ad, so avoid the expiry that way.

I have actually been toying with the idea of starting my own SP web site, putting the time in and doing it properly, but I don't have the investment.

Agency rates usually average around 250, I'm not sure I understand you.
Plus many, many indys that are actually hot are around 300; an extra 50 really goes far. I wouldn't exceed that though.

Usually a social media presence helps distinguish who is active and worth contacting based on up to date photos and interactions with others online.

Or do those expensive providers have different equipment, somehow?

Your budget is your budget, only you can set that and follow it.
I just wanted to add, in my experience, as a rule of thumb SP rates up to $300/h you often see some value added with regards to Indy's, beyond that though the cost to experience ratio depreciates exponentially.
It's just my observation.

But I have complained about a SP who I had texted on the Tuesday for a Friday date and got basically a totally brainless ditz, the answers bore no resemblance to the questions I had asked. Then on Friday she ignored me all day and then responded "Hello" to all of that day's texts about 2:00pm. I responded "Goodbye", complained to the site that was hosting her ad, and I see that her ad has been removed. Pity, I really wanted to bang her.

I am also refusing to communicate with SPs who have phone numbers south of the border or only email addresses.- that email thing is GUARANTEED to initiate a flood of SPAM, and you will NOT get a reply in the "20 seconds" that they promise. Just like the internet spiders of a few years ago it's really a scam perpetrated by SPAMmers. to get your email address and sell it for profit. I did several from a GMail address, and I am still clicking on the SPAM icon at least 20 times a day.

I Posted this elsewhere...

I am a recent "hobbyist" and started a Bookmarks folder in my browser with likely providers.

It got to be quite a long list, then I realised I would be calling or texting phone numbers as far away as EUROPE for local Ontario service. Many numbers are as far away as Texas and California, there are so many numbers closer but over the border in the USA.

So I culled (deleted) all numbers outside of Ontario. I think I'd rather give my business to Canadians than Americans who are enjoying the best of both worlds and taking work away from Canadians - as usual.

Then I had an experience sending messages to providers GMail accounts, and the SPAM started streaming in - but none of the promised replies. So I culled all of those too. The incoming SPAM gets reported to GMail as such - and Blocked.

More deletions from my list of any provider who requires me to give any personal information in advance, does not take cash, or demands up-front payments of any amount.

I also culled any provider who demands more than $250 for an hour - I have seen some demanding as much as $1,100 an hour, so they must be very special people (with very special equipment).

I will NOT under any circumstances buy any brand of cards and provide the codes before arrival.

I look on a provider's ad for the last date they were there. Anything over 3 months gets a cull.

And I will NOT text or call any provider who does not advertise their rates. I have had it with that nonsense - they never respond.

What's with ads that have NO contact information AT ALL?
