Does anybody know where one could sell 1oz gold wafers for close to market value for cash relatively hassle-free?

Well you could drive to Detroit, sell it, exchange your money, and if you don't get murdered, call a provider in Windsor!

Oh yeah, you mentioned hassle-free (so I am not really shilling).

Shack, try The Coin Market @ 710 Yonge Street (416-964-1632). They pay market value and in CASH. Good luck.

Shack, I had the same problem last month trying to find a buyer so I decided to put them on ebay and I got about US$10 more than the posted rate per oz. There are many for sale on there but they almost always sell for more than the going rate. I think this is the way to go plus you get paid in US funds.

Next to Yorkdale Mall close to the subway station there use to be a Thomas Cook currency exchange. They bought and sold gold by the oz (or several at a time). However I think that you have to provide ID.
