I don't wear one.. if a cop is driving by, looks like I have it on.. never had a ticket. I have been pulled over for other reasons and can always put it on without the cop noticing.

I had one cop threaten to cite me for unfastened seat belt, after I had already stopped my car and unfastened the seat belt in order to get my wallet in order to show my license/registration for the real reason he stopped me, because I accidentally cut some lady off. He let me go after yelling at me for being a rude driver and generally acting disgusted with me.

enforcing the seat belt law is a waste of time if you think about it. instead it should just invalidate your access to healthcare.

"hey bill. this guy wasn't wearing his seatbelt."

"dumbass. well leave him here to rot then....."

I think that anyone who doesn't wear a seat belt is simply unaware of how stupid they are. They should have their heads driven into a steering wheel/dashboard/windshield at 20 mph. Doesn't sound very fast? Ever fall off a bike at 20 mph?

not really. those are all physical addictions that are chemical imbalances and medically treatable. not using your seatbelt is a conscious choice you make every time you get into the car. if you don't see the difference then you've got bigger problems than your skull eventually flying through your windshield at high speed.

I strongly believe drivers should not wear seat belt. The reason being is that it create an illusion of safety, which might motivate the driver to drive dangerously.

I mean, if you know your car doesn't have seat belts, no airbags, and nothing to protect you if you crash, you may be more cautious when you drive. You may think twice before speeding pass that yellow light.

I dumped a motorbike at about 45mph in dense forest. HOw does that compare?
I'm talking bicycle on pavement. If you wear a helmet in your car and don't go much faster than 20 then sure, don't bother using a seat belt.

I hope your illusion of safety will cover the mistakes of other drivers.

It's a bullshit law. How many millions of people ride the TTC every day unrestrained -- taking the same or more risks? If it's legal and acceptable for them, then why not allow private drivers and passengers the right to choose?

Yes, and a motorcycle at 65mph.

I used to have an old Ford pick up, and an old Bronco, and they only had a lap belt. Stupid cops tried giving me a ticket several times for not being properly belted. I laughed when a rookie or young female cop pulled me over. They were younger than what I was driving. They don't know their way around vehicles. Actually, I hate the restriction more than anything. My ass falls asleep on long trips, because I can't move around enough. Time to find another old classic.

Seat belts

This just shows you don't need brains to be a driver or a member of terb. Blame the government for poor training of drivers. :(

I once got a seatbelt ticket even though I was wearing one and the cop admitted I was wearing one.

It was early to mid-70's and a buddy and I were driving along Sheppard smoking a joint and in possession of a few grams of grass when two cops stopped us because my buddy (the driver) wasn't wearing his belt. They threatened to bust us for the dope but instead gave us both tickets for not wearing our belts. I didn't complain. As well, they gave me my grass back.

Not a bad deal.

It's a BS law

Why should the government legislate this? We don’t need the government to be paternal. If an adult chooses to wear one, so be it, if not so be it.

Why don’t school buses have seat belts for our children? Seems a little hypocritical, doesn’t it?
