my friend just got a ticket

Friend just got a ticket for no seat belt , cop had someone pulled over, friend drives by slowly (as per the law) cop finishes quickly and chases friend down. Nice fine and a few points probably...for a quick trip from the office to a variety store.

No points for a seatbelt infraction. Points usually only come into play for so-called "moving violations" ie. speeding, illegal turn, wrong way on a one way etc...although, there may be insurance implications.

** Was corrected below. 2 points apply. **

here, there and everywhere!
points

No, you are wrong on that. There are TWO points for a seat belt ticket and there definately ARE insurance implications.

As an engineer, I seriously doubt the padded seat back will safely absorb enough energy from a young body being thrown into it so no injury occurs. Whereas a safety restraint usually does.
...
As am I my friend. With the exception of a head on with an 18 wheeler or another bus, the will stop at a relative slow rate due to the buses huge inertia and the small mass of other cars; as the time increases, the force required to stop the child decreases and therefore less of a chance of injury (also the concept used in air bags, crumple zones, even seatbelts). Safety is also the reason why the seats are so tall (at least for a child). Our little ones will hit the middle of the seat where there is no frame and the seat backs have a lot of give, extending the contact time even further. Go check one out. I've been on one in the last year or so. The seat back is essentially a hollow frame with loose fabric covering it, the only real padding is along the top of the frame, where a larger child or adult face will hit. Yes, it is likely that an adult will lose teeth.

I'm sure the insurance companies are working on that.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever beaten a seatblet ticket in court? Can it be done?
...about 10yrs back or so ..there was a provision for delivery people who are in and out of their vehicle over short distances...I don't do deliveries, but make numerous stops to see clients throughout the day...always wear my seal belt...this one time..didn't have it on, got caught...took it to court, and showed to court that I was in and out of vehicle about 10 times a day..beat the ticket, but have never moved my vehicle on the street since without a seatbelt. Crazy to consider driving without one...saves way more lives and injuries than air bags do..

Why should the government legislate this? We don’t need the government to be paternal. If an adult chooses to wear one, so be it, if not so be it.
Maybe you'll have second thoughts when your head hits the pavement like a pumpkin....

Live from the hood
A seat belt may or may not save your life so intill they start putting rollbars and 5 inch wide seat belts in cars it's going to hurt or result in death when you hit something.

Car manufacturers don't give a shit if you live or die in an accident they just want to sell cars with the highest profit margin in mind.

So intill I see the government make these's fucking car manufacturers put some real safety equipment in cars it don't make a shit if you wear a seat belt or not.

And whats really dumb is that car manufacturers could put rollbars and 5 inch
wide seatbelts in cars for the same cost of airbags or less, how come racecars don't have airbags because it's a stupid fucking idea thats why.

And don't forget about ABS brakes proven to be more dangerous and to stop slower on snow or ice than non ABS brakes another stupid fucking idea, a another peice of shit product you will not find on any racecar wonder why

Not wearing a seatbelt can actually cost the "system" more money if you get into an accident (more cops to show up, ambulance, hospital care, ect.) which is why it is enforced. They really couldn't give a rats ass about your safety and well being.

I always wear a seatbelt ...my friend doesn't

My friend claims to have a doctor's note saying he is claustrophobic and does not have to wear a seatbelt...anyone know if this is possible...this guy lies alot so I am just putting this out there for those of you who might know for sure.

In theory, it is possible. Medical exemptions are allowable, but whether or not your friend is telling the truth about his situation is a whole other ball game.

Exactly. It's like the people who make phony WCB claims and then have an inspector taking pictures of the guy with a bad back shingling his roof and playing tennis. If you get caught, you will be screwed hard until the end of time and so will the doctor. The court has no patience for cheats (well, unless it is them). ;)
