After 71 years the popular flagship sandwich shop at College and Clinton St. has close its doors permanently, citing rising costs. I loved their veal sandwiches.
Another location is still open in Mississauga.

I’m sorry to hear about this. Back in the 1980s there was also a San Francesco’s location at Bathurst and Queen that I frequented. Great sandwiches — I loved that place. The Clinton location was a bit out of the way for me, but I was there a few times.

FYI:

Veal is the flesh of male calves born to dairy cattle. Milk cows need to give birth every 3-4 years for the beasts to produce milk. A farmer only needs one bull, as cow sex lasts for about four seconds; basically bulls are premature ejaculators. The bull has a genetic pedigree for siring female offspring which produce a lot of milk.

If the heifer's baby cow is female, it will become a dairy cow when mature. The male offspring are what the Nazis would call "useless eaters"; they serve no purpose in farming, other than to be butchered for veal. They are genetically different from beef cattle.

The male calf is separated from its mother almost immediately after birth, and is generally well treated until the butcher's truck shows up. Cows are so stupid that within a couple of days, the heifer has forgotten that she had given birth. Veal is a necessary byproduct of producing milk and cheese; you can't have the other without the one.

I worked on a dairy farm during hay season for two summers during the mid-1970's.

Thx, always wondered why they slaughtered calves for veal.

I ate at the Mississauga location, the waitress was tastier than the sanguich.

Capra's Kitchen is in Clarkson. Should I go there, I expect an ass kicking Veal Milanese.
