There is so many things wrong with that list I'm dumbfounded. I mean Robert Johnson in the top 10? Very influential but as a guitarist???? And that's just a start. Actually, that top ten alone is a joke!

But, what do you expect from a magazine who's top two songs of all time are:

2. Can't Get No Satisfaction - Rolling Stones
1. Like a Rolling Stone - Dylan

Yeah, really unbiased there

Frank Zappa should be at 2 or even 1; these latent teeny boppers have him at # 45????!!!!!

And Steve Morse, Paco De Lucia and Roy Clarke are not even on the list and yet an over-rated sloppy guitarist like Jimmy Page gets #9.

Yeah these types of lists are always going to be highly disputed because they are subjective. Sports is a bit easier because at least there are stats to fuel the debates.

The criteria has to be clearly defined..... is it

a) influence
b) popularity
c) song writing
d) solos
e) technical skills
f) innovations be it use of new technique or equipment
g) distinctive sound

Based on that criteria it would be hendrix or EVH IMO.

But fans of prog rock could certainly make arguments for a guy like Zappa or Fripp.

At the same time I also enjoy BB King while not one of the best I like his tones and songs. But if you've watched the doc Rattle and Hum you find out he can't play chords well.

I like Dave Gilmour but he doesn't play quickly would be the knock against him.

I used to read the mag all the time but I can't remember the last time I've picked up the mag.
