Maybe they can prove he was lying. That's what the trial will determine. He's not being charged with taking steroids. He's charged with perjury. Perjury is a criminal offence in Canada as well. As it should be. I would agree however that congress should have better things to do than involve itself in baseball. But lying under oath must be punished and severely. Otherwise the whole legal system collapses.

its wasn't a criiminal trial so it has nothing to do with the legal system. it was a dog and pony show. if steroid abuse is so bad that congress had to investigate it- why is he not charged with steroid abuse?

yes. thats my point. if the steroid abuse isn't worth charging him for then why charge him with lying about it? you think thats a good thing, I think its an asinine abuse of power.

I think everyone, in every sport should be allowed to take whatever they want. We're paying for entertainment. I don't see what all the outrage is about, and I can't understand why congress feels this is a priority issue.

It is an overflow of national pride steming from Olympic style sports.

if someone is lying about a crime (a real crime) then ok perjury is important. but this was just political posturing. it was bullshit from day one. thats why I think its wrong

Unless I am misremembering things, it is Clemens himself that insisted on speaking in front of congress. Politicians never were going to ask him to speak, but once he gave them the invite, they called him on it.

But I could be misremembering.
