14 day stay on the ruling, Ford will almost certainly use the two weeks to appeal and request a further stay. I doubt this is over yet.

Doesn't he have to obtain leave to appeal?

Let's say his appeal is unsuccessful (likely), does this mean that Doug Holyday will complete Ford's term as mayor? I can see the left gearing up now to have some kind of in-council election to "appoint" Ford's replacement.

The good thing, even with all the mud of will he go or won't he flying about, is that we might get to see an actual competent, experienced guy in the Mayor's job to show the Fordiots what they could have had if they'd demanded a real candidate instead of settling for a clownshow. For at least a time, Doug Holyday, the Deputy Mayor will fill in. His politics may not appeal to me, but how refreshing to have a Mayor with sense and ability however briefly.

Besides, he already was doing whatever work the Ford regime accomplished.

Your place!!
Council can call a by election to replace him or they can appoint someone to finish his term. Apparently if a by election is called he can run in it.

what a load of bs. the only good thing out of this is that doug holyday will take over and he would be a better mayor. if theres another election in a few months who's gonna run and would it be a 4 year term? the right has a better chance at winning since the left doesnt have a star candidate like chow able to run

Why would Holyday become mayor? He was appointed deputy mayor by a person who the courts have deemed UNFIT to hold office. If anything, it's guilt by association and he should go to the back of the line.

I guess we will be heading back to out of control spending and union influence. I suspect Adam Vaughan aka Mr Nasty had an unaided orgasm when the news broke.

Maybe not. The most recent poll showed Vaughan would lose to Chow if an election were held today.

Rob Ford's appeal can easily last until the end of his term as mayor. What is key is if a stay on the decision to kick him out is granted. The stay could easily be granted, meaning he will remain as mayor while the appeal goes through the courts.

And yes, it is up to council to decide how to proceed if Ford is not granted a stay. The deputy mayor has no claim to succeed Ford as mayor if he gets fired.

Because he has the job, and that's what the job is. No one has judged him unfit. There is no auto-mechanism attached to Ford appointments that undoes them when he's removed, nor should there be when Council has approved them. As they did Holyday.

My point is that there is a particular element of nastiness to Adam Vaughan and that his satisfaction was not related to becoming mayor. And I agree that Olivia would beat Adam hands down. I do not like Olivia's politics, but she is a civilised person. But both would send spending out of control again. And there is no reserve fund to deplete as in the Miller years, and it is a forgone conclusion that one time hand outs from the province will be very hard to come by.

Interesting that the only mark of accomplishment ford had during his term was to sort out the garbage privatization. So I guess he will go down, ironically, as Torontos garbage mayor.

He's had his fun, fucked enough things up in the heart of Canada's commercial city but now it's time for him to go.

If he really wants to be a mayor of someplace, he should try Chatham or wallaceburg - places a little more his speed. Getting called to the big show, being elected on sloganeering and then shitting the bed SO bad a judge has to remove him. That's a pretty good indication he was never fit to be mayor in the first place.

Thank god the judge made the right decision.

I'm watching the news conference on CP 24. One of the reporters dared asked: "How does this lawsuit make the city a better place?". It doesn't help even one resident one iota. It is all politics. Why did it take more than a year to launch the lawsuit, if so important? Why did they wait until Rob Ford became mayor before launching the lawsuit? It is all politics, nothing about making Toronto a better place.

A mayor is elected by the people. A mayor is not appointed by ONE person as would be the case for Holyday-Holyday was given the job by Ford. He has no legitimate claim to the chain of office. The former mayor was removed from office because of a lack of integrity. Ask yourself honestly, would you feel comfortable with anyone who was hand-picked by a person who the courts, after a long and objective examination of the facts, found to be lacking integrity? Would you do business with a person who was recommended to you by a person who authorities said lacked integrity? This is my point. And yes, when it comes to politics, business, and friends, I know that birds of a feather flock together.

If Holyday wants to be mayor, he should have to earn it through an election. And if you want him to be mayor, then vote for him.
