So I'm coming home from work, and as I enter downtown proper, there's a RIDE check at 7pm! 6 cops asking people if they've had anything to drink at dinnertime on a Tuesday. It surprised me, as it doesn't really seem like a particularly efficient of police resources. Maybe try again in 3 hours?

People drink all the time at all hours. After dinner is a good time to check. 10 pm on a Tuesday is probably less productive than 7pm.

I've been stopped at 7:30 AM.

As in - in the morning.

7:30 a.m. is early if you work for a living, but if you're unemployed and living on pogey, 7:30 is bed time after a night of boozing.

Maybe they're trying to reinforce the idea that you can be stopped anytime, anywhere.

Well, I've had more to drink now than I had had at the time, so I guess we both win?

We must have different ideas of dinner time. I'd think that dinner out with drinks would be from 7 or 8 until 9 or 10

Hopefully with my face in a pussy
One day I stopped at lights on Lakeshore, under the Gardiner, and on the other side of the intersection was a cop car, guy in the back, and an SUV parked in front of it about to be towed. The cop was walking back to his car with a partly consumed 26er of booze that he took out of the front seat. Time - 10am. I hope the drunken fucker got the book thrown at him.

There's a reason why they do it in the morning. Many people will stay up late boozing until 2-3 a.m. and then they wake up early for work and are still intoxicated. Many people think the effects of alcohol will be ridden from your system after 3 hours of sleep, but depending on how much you consume this is definitely not the case.

There are afternoon drinkers, business drinkers, after work drinkers and it's a solid practise for police to vary RIDE check times and locations.

If you're leaving a casino, don't be shocked if you go through a RIDE check not for alcohol but for fatigue. How long have you been in the casino sir?

perhaps the ride check has been is strategically position near a casino or bar along with the day welfare checks are delivered

Maybe so, but I can assure you that this is done at casinos for driver fatigue.

I highly doubt it. RIDE's purpose is to deal with impaired driving offences. Driving while being fatigued is not a criminal offence. (Unless it's a Dangerous driving, but RIDE does not deal with it because RIDEs are stationery and dangerous drivers are usually spotted while driving full speed, not going through a checkpoint).

I got stopped around 2:30 a.m. after they officially finished, but I didn't want to drive thru (no one was manning the post, but their stop sign was there even though they were busy with others that they pulled over).

When I asked for permission like an honest John, she asked me, "Well, we're done but have you had anything to drink", I said "Well, I was at the Rihanna concert". Then she asked, "Did you drink?", and I said, "Yeah, but that was hours ago, yada yada yada" (not true, I had a Manhattan about 40 minutes ago for last call).

She asked me to pull over. I blew twice in the breathalyzer device, and she joked "Sir, that's a high score", and flipped it around to show my 0.00 score. Frankly, I think she was using reverse psychology to guage my reaction as I don't believe that I was 0.00 even though below the limit.

Why would you even say you had anything to drink? Especially if you paid cash, why give them anything to go on?

My view if i have had a drink is that I did not drink anything, I imbibed something.

About two years back I was getting on the 427 south bound from highway 7 where there was a ride check at about 5pm on a Wednesday afternoon.
Its a waste of money at these times due to the fact that the number of people drinking excessively at these times is reduced by a very large margin.

They had one set up today @ DVP & Eglinton just after 1pm today. I guess they were looking for the lunch time stragglers who had a few extra with lunch to beat the heat. After listening to the news earlier the Sgt in charge of that check point today said that he scheduled it from 1-3 but the ended it after 40 mins due to the huge traffic jam they caused. I guess people were losing their tempers in this heat from sitting in the jam only to go through that. To top it off not one person caught.

I thought they only did RIDE checks in during the Christmas/NewYear's holiday period - that is the only time of year I've ever driven through them and been interviewed. They do them all year long? Ok, good to know, though I don't drive drunk so it doesn't really matter to me anyway.
