How so Hayward?

Phil Kessel is the right player at the wrong time. The Leafs were an expansion team when he arrived, at their current progress he'll be wasted just like Mats Sundin before him. What do you want, a playoff elimination team or a legitimate Cup contender? Trade Kessel now while his market value is at it's highest.

And speaking of all things high, let us bow to the man most responsible for the current state of the team. WE'RE NOT WORTHY!!!!!!

IV ... Old Bull ? You sure are shoving the same old bull as everyone else.
If you truly cannot see a difference in the Leafs before Burke got here and now, then I cannot/will not explain anymore. You will never see.

Kessel was born in '87 ... 87 !

He is 24 not 34. Kessel is apart of the solution(and not as a tradable commodity).

The Leafs are never as far out of it as people think. Burke cannot give out 'No Movement Clauses', and only if a player insists, and is worth it, a limited 'No Trade Clause'.
Get the true center, ideally Getzlaf, and away we go.

I will take this opportunity to state 'no Leaf fan who knows the game thinks any one trade/player will make the Leafs a serious contender for the Cup'. In fact I do not think even both Getzlaf and Nash make the Leafs a Cup contender. They would need to tweak the D and goaltending before I would seriously put Leafs and Stanley Cup into a conversation about 'who will win it'.

I agree the Leafs need some tweaking and the first thing that should be tweaked is Wilson! Tweak his ass out of town.

I agree fully. Even though Lupul is sure to not enjoy points like he has this season next year, he has proven even during skids, that he refuses to roll over and vanish like most on the roster.

Myself, I'd throw Grabs into the package Doot suggested. From what I gather tonight on TSN, the two sides ( Burke and Grabs agent ) are miles apart on a contract. If he can't be signed for close to or aroud 5 million, then see ya. He'll walk come July. So make him the corner of any deal to try and get Nash, someone from Anaheim ( doubt that though with them beating the Canes tonight )

Myself? I say forget the Nash talk, sounds like the NYR are leading that one. I'd go after LA for Penner and Bernier and trade Gustavsson, Grabovski and a 2nd round pick. Perhaps TB or Washington might be ready to deal a star for the right youth?

agree - forget about Nash. Penner and Bernier sounds more realistic.

Perhaps Grabovski for Derek Roy.

Having watched gardiner last night.....and before...... I would be extremely disappointed if Gardiner were dealt. He is soooo smooth, patient and smart with the puck....Especially for a young guy.

I like him better than cement footed, brain cramp prone Phaneuf. He will be the Leaf cornerstone.

Phaneuf was directly responsible for that first Washington goal last night at 32 seconds in.

IN FACT.... I would throw Phaneuf into a deal!

If that is what you believe, then why do you think another team would take him with the Cap hit he would bring ?

Get Nash at all cost. He is a proven, perennial all-stars with skill and grits - a franchise player that the Leafs have been missing since Sundin. Throw in Burke and Wilson if it could make the deal.
Seriously though, I would trade Kessel for Nash if I have to.

Then at this time next year we'll all be wishing we had a sniper on the wing.

Kessel for Nash is at best, a lateral move. It doesn't improve the team.

Sportsnet just quoted a Columbus radio station saying two firm offers for Nash: one from San Jose and the other from the Leafs, in a deal that includes Lupol.

That I would do.

Agree about Penner and Bernier. There is talk of Nabokov, but against the Sens tonight, he looked very weak. In fact with the one goal top shelf looked just like Reimer or Gus.

As for Grabs, Torontos shot at the post season is bad. Buffalo being 3pts back right now even worse. I see Grabovski getting more interest by teams like Vancouver, Detroit, St Louis or the Pens even looking to give up a prospect for depth. Without a contract, Grabs is little use to teams likely to miss the playoffs, including Toronto.

If he is not under contract by Sun night, then BB should shop him Monday for the best possible pick he can get in return.
Kathleen, nice assessment! Your analysis of hockey makes you even hotter. :)

This thread was totally awesome. Reminds me of my youth when every April Fools day I'd wake up, and passing the newspaper boxes on the corner of some intersection, there'd be a picture of Wayne Gretzky in a leaf jersey.

Ahh, good times.
