With the Liberals in power save as much as possible they've already dropped the TFSA limits back down to $5500 a year and I wouldn't be surprised if they put some form of cap on it.

Fortunately I will have a defined pension of about 40% until I die. This will be based on my best five years average. I will also have CPP obviously.

Two other streams will be continuing to place money into various investments and when I downsize the house taking half the equity out tax free and safely invested will add another income stream.

I wil also make sure I'm completely out of debt, have purchased a new vehicle, and won't be taking on any new major purchases before I hang it up. I will also have the option of working part time while double dipping which I may do to add activity and income.

20 years away for me.

Sweet, government job? As I start to get older I am thinking I should try to transition to the public sector, seems one of the only places with good pension plans still in place.
Yes a Government job is a great one for retirement planning. But you need to be employed for over 25 years to get a fair amount to live on, even if you have to retire around the 60 year mark.

I'd recommend you follow a YouTube stream "Kev in Thailand" He is a Brit who outlines the real issues around living there.

its real cheap as a retirement option. 30,000 Baht a month is a real nice lifestyle ($1200 Cdn). I've been following the guy. If you are single....he gives some real practical advice!!

Actually private sector. Very old school. It's even non contributory from me.

In Europe the private companies do contribute 100 % to pension plans. The Government jobs were normally the last resort as salaries were generally lower than the private sector.

Much to my continued surprise that is not correct. There are some very PHAT plans out there especially Universities and Healthcare when you are at the management/executive level.

@Butler, you have it right. My target was $3M no debt, etc. I'm out of the GTA and the rat race in general @ age 47. My tomato plants are doing great this year.
