Not that I don't have a sense of humour, but I'm not quite sure how we, as Canadians, can make fun of the French (based on the current world crisis, I assume), when we seem, for the most part, to be all too happy to be turning our collective backs on our most important friend and ally. I bet Chretien would have been happy to use a veto if only Canada was considered important enough internationally to have one.

I'm sure in the eyes of Americans, there's not much difference between the French and us, and they're right. My office manager's daughter just got back from Boston in tears due to the amount of flack she got from her boyfriend's family for being Canadian.

I guess there were several threads on the French where I could have posted this, but this just came to mind while reading this one. You can go back to coming up with French insults now. Or maybe we can come up with a thread where we substitute other words for Canadian. Instead of Canadian back bacon it can be spineless back bacon. I'm sure we could come up with many others.

p.s. I have no great love for the French, but right now I don't feel as good as I used to about being Canadian.

France is a permanent member of the Security Council & has veto power. One veto can kill any UN resolutions. Period.
The fact that France proclaimed openly that it will veto any resolution to disarm Iraq militarily under any circumstance only encourages Iraq not to comply, thus drawing USA & Iraq closer to war; subsequently, France even lobbied for votes among non-permanent members (who has no veto power) is adding insult to injury or rubbing salt into wounds, whatever you want to call it. This was certainly not the behaviour of an ally, not to mention that a lot of Americans died during WWII in making a detour to liberate Paris when they could simply race against time & the Russians to capture Berlin.
Disarming Iraq of WMD is not a new request. Iraq agreed to it as a condition of its surrender during Desert Storm, which France was a party of the campaign. France & a lot of other countries certainly have a short memory!
Also who sold Iraq of its first neuclear reactor capable of building neuclear bomb & subsequently the Isralie Air Force destroyed??? You got it, the French.
France's anti-war stance stems from selfish economic consideration (all loans & trade deals will be down the drain with a regime change).

France and others are for replacing Saddam but it's a matter of
how and there is no agreement on war, that's all.
Well : Is everybody who does not agree with Bush against the US. Me not. I think the war is wrong, Saddam nevertheless has to be replaced.
If Bush behaves like : I say something and everybody has to follow that cannot be the post cold war global politics.

Maybe it's inability of diplomacy. It's certainly not nice for allies
against terror to here from CNN that there is are three evil
countries now and a lot of other things USA announced without informing their allies upfront.

Bush should stop to behave like Caesar only because US is the

The problem is that it is not what WE think of the comparison, but what the perception of the Americans is, because that is where the backlash will come from. Some of the "snowbirds" down in Florida are already complaining about the grief they are receiving from the American residents. Their approach is that if you're not with us, it means that you're against us. It may not be right, but it is the reality of the situation.

Well first someone came up with the idea to replace the word FRENCH. Must have been and American Politician. Even if they passed law you think 300million people would change?
