My now-wife's parents were not crazy about her getting together with me (go figure), so we had a showdown. I gave her one instruction, her mother contradicted it, fiance had to decide. I though her head was going to explode, but she defied her mother and went with me. Her mother was crushed, but she decided to accept being no longer in control, rather than write her off. But now she knew that if forced to choose, fiance would choose me. Keeping that in mind has made things work since then, but it is a somewhat high-risk gambit.
I knew a guy who converted to Judaism to marry a girl, he got chopped at 30 and gave up shellfish and pork. Everyone must decide for themselves.
