Good acting? Yes.
Best Picture? Maybe not.

The problem I have is everyone focusing on the main characters being gay. Some people use it to make jokes and others use it as a reason for why the movie is better (than it should be).

Grow up and get over it.

My sentiments exactly. I won't see it, not because I'm homophobic, but because I wouldn't go see a hetero love story either. (Too bad there's no smilie indicating a gag reflex.)

I wonder how many people would change their mind if the movie were a gratuitous peek into a proposed forbidden romance between two women. :D

I think you misread my post. I was against people making a big deal about the movie because of its topic be it for jokes or for accolades.

Actually I went to see it. I said in the quote that I have a problem with people making a big deal out of it because it focuses on a gay relationship. My feeling was that the movie would have been just as good with any combo of genders as the two main characters.

BTW looks like Crash won best pic. This was a good movie I like the theme of how widespread racist attitudes are but it also goes to show that people with racist attitudes can also turn out to be good people.

As for brokeback, I thought that was a good movie too. Although I think crash was better. I wish I had viewed the other nominees for best pic. I think it you guys get a chance to see it you'll find that the sex is a lot less graphic than you'd think and there's some hetero sex scenes thrown in there along with some hottie actresses topless. Anyways, at the heart of the movie is a story about two people in love who can't be together. If the genre of romance doesn't do anything for you then this movie is not for you.

I'll bet guys will score big points with their gfs for being openminded enough to see it.

OK, let's get serious

Right after the movie lost to Crash, the post ANALysis is that the Americans are still not too much into gay cowboys & that the society still has not accepted this as norm.

I mean, C'MON GET FUCKING REAL!! This is from the same bunch of critics who had the pre ANALysis where they are asking people to watch it just like regular movie. Instead of accepting the fact that this might just not be quite as good as a movie than Crash, they blame it on ignorance again.

Read another article. The critics praise the fact that the two main characters were acted by straight men. WTF, so if we have a gay and a lesbian making out in a straight movie, that makes it good?

HOMOVIES have been in the main stream for quite some time & they all have received their share of recognitions: Philadephia, The Crying Game, Kiss of a Spider Woman, Capote. I think those dam critics have to stop making a fuss about those HOMOvies not winning the big prizes.

I think the sad part is that the supporters and detractors of movies like BBM are closer in mindset than either side would care to admit.

Both choose to focus in on the homosexual aspects of the movie.
